Today Wizards announced the formats for the 2011 Community Cup, one of which is sure to generate discussion is the 'Modern' constructed format which they are introducing for the event. This is not an official new format, as evidenced by the lack of big announcement or attention. The other formats are Scars of Mirrodin draft, Standard and Modern.

Modern Format
The 'Modern' format is comprised of all cards printed with the modern borders, that is the borders used from 8th Ed. and Mirrodin Block forward. Meaning it is all of the following blocks:
- Eighth Edition
- Ninth Edition
- Tenth Edition
- Magic 2010
- Magic 2011
- Mirrodin block
- Champions of Kamigawa block
- Ravnica block
- Coldsnap
- Time Spiral block
- Lorwyn block
- Shadowmoor block
- Shards of Alara block
- Zendikar block
- Scars of Mirrodin block
And they outline the following cards as banned:
- Ancient Den
- Seat of the Synod
- Vault of Whispers
- Great Furnace
- Tree of Tales
- Chrome Mox
- Dark Depths
- Sensei's Divining Top
- Skullclamp
- Sword of the Meek
- Umezawa's Jitte
- Golgari Grave-Troll
Unified Construction Rules
Wizards also notes that both teams (Wizards and Community) will have to abide by the Unified construction rules which means that no team has access to more than 4 cards other than the basic lands. So Deck A can't have 4 Batterskull if Deck B has any Batterskull.
