Standard has really run the gamut. At the beginning of the season R/W-based Vehicle decks were the undisputed champions of Standard. Then, the format seemed a little more open until B/G Delirium exerted its dominance. After an Aggro deck and a midrange had their time in the sun, we now have a full fledged combo deck on top! Naya Aetherworks is the new top dog in Standard. What makes it unique and so powerful is that in some games it plays like a fast combo deck, using Aetherworks Marvel to put Emrakul, the Promised End into play similar to Show and Tell plus Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in Legacy. But in other games, it can also play a midrange style with solid defense because of efficient removal like Harnessed Lightning and power houses like Ishkanah, Grafwidow and Nahiri, the Harbinger. The deck is actually just so well rounded! I think that has to do with the fact that my team, particularly Jacob Baugh and Chris Anderson worked so hard on the deck. It is no surprise that they both made Top 8 at the SCG Invitational with Jacob winning it all! My man! What a champ!

We considered and tested the Blue splash, but, after that last game in Match 4 . . . oh man, I am still reeling from the blows. It seemed like my opponent just had it all and I can't believe how badly I got beaten. I will have to watch that one again, after I nurse my wounds, to see what I could have done differently. There is a fair amount of flexibility with this deck and while I think this build was perfect for the SCG Invitational, it is likely still close to perfect. The White splash is great in the mirror and is also great against expected hate like Stasis Snare. We are likely at a point where nothing in Standard will change until the new cards come out and even then, this deck will likely still be great with few, if any modifications. If they print some new energy cards, which is a theme of the set, we will likely get some new toys for the deck that would make it even more powerful.
Until next week, GLHF friends. May you smite thy enemies with a Golden Axe!
