Aukenthaler Rocks Rimini

Reddit

1,037 players showed up in Rimini, Italy to battle Magic 2014 limited. The field at Rimini was particularly star-studded, since several of the competitors will be heading to Amsterdam for Worlds Week immediately after. After nine rounds of sealed and two drafts, the field was whittled down to just eight competitors, with Ben Stark headlining the Top 8 and names like Denniz Rachid, Andre Mueller and Shuuhei Nakamura finishing just short.

Heading into the Top 8 draft, it looked like Blue was the color to be in, with bombs like Domestication, format-defining creatures like Nephalia Seakite, and tempo plays like Frost Breath and Disperse to fight through the auras that permeate the format.

Christoph Aukenthaler drafted an awesome deck that starts with Blue and Green for powerful creatures and tempo plays with just a touch of black for hard removal. Ben Stark fell in the quarterfinals, but Aukenthaler fought through Tamas Nagy in the quarterfinals, Emanuele Giusti in the semis, and Rasmus Bjoerklund in the finals to become the champion of Grand Prix Rimini. Take a look at his winning decklist below, and head over to the official coverage on DailyMTG.com to learn more about Magic 2014 limited.

Congratulations to Christoph Aukenthaler, champion of Grand Prix Rimini.
