Enchanted Winds

Reddit

The first Legacy deck I ever built was a Naya Enchantress deck. I’ve always loved the ability to turn all of my cards into cantrips, and using that value engine to slowly assemble something which overwhelms my opponent. Unfortunately, it’s been a long time since Enchantress has been good in Legacy. The problem is all of its win conditions just aren’t efficient enough. Words of War takes many turns or enchantress effects to really do anything. Sigil of the Empty Throne isn’t great against the likes of Terminus or Tendrils of Agony. Moat and Leyline of Sanctity just aren’t what they used to be in a format of Emrakuls and Griselbrands. That’s where Chris Anderson’s take on the archetype comes in:

The core of this deck is still the same. Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth ramp your mana so you can resolve an early Enchantress's Presence or Green Sun's Zenith for Argothian Enchantress. From there, you just want to assemble a critical mass of enchantress effects and mana, utilizing the likes of Elephant Grass and Seal of Removal to buy time. Pretty standard. The difference comes when you find a Cloudstone Curio or Words of Wind. Once you’ve resolved one of those spells, it’s time to get broken.

The key engine of this deck is Cloud of Faeries plus mana enchantments. This lets you generate mana each time a Cloud of Faeries resolves, which opens up all manner of possibilities. The simplest is to use Seal of Removal to bounce your own Cloud of Faeries if you’re trying to hit a critical mass of mana. Alternatively, you can use Cloudstone Curio to alternatively bounce an enchantress or, better yet, Eternal Witness, and Cloud of Faeries to pull ahead.

The goal is to find a Words of Wind, which allows you to do two things. First, it allows you to replace all of the draws from your enchantress effects, which prevents you from decking yourself. It’s important to note that none of the enchantress triggers are “may” triggers, which means decking is something you do have to worry about. Secondly, the placement effect allows you to go infinite with enough enchantresses. With two enchantress effects, the first replacement can pick up a one mana enchantment and the second can pick up your Cloud of Faeries, and you can iterate through that loop until your opponent has no permanents left.

Then comes the best part. You’ll notice there isn’t really a traditional win condition in this deck. There’s no Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, Opalescence, or anything like that. No, this deck wins by beating down with Cloud of Faeries and Eternal Witness. Who wouldn’t love to spend multiple turns drawing millions of cards and bouncing their opponent’s board while attacking for two and three points of damage at a time?
