At Pro Tour Amonkhet, Sam Black unveiled a monstrosity of a deck that I’m still thrilled about. Sam built a tokens deck that used Anointed Procession to go way bigger than Aetherworks Marvel. However, the combination of Aetherworks Marvel into Ulamog on early turns, Chandra, Flamecaller, and Torrential Gearhulk for hard counterspells, this style of deck just got pushed out of the format. However, now that Marvel is gone and the format is returning to a midrangey kind of place, it may be time to revisit this awesome take on Standard:

This deck is built around Anointed Procession. Your early creatures are meant to be reasonable on their own, but generate a ton of value once you’ve found one or more copies of Procession. Thraben Inspector generating multiple clues and Blisterpod generating multiple Eldrazi Scions is obviously great, as is embalming for multiple Anointer Priests or Sacred Cats.
Once you’ve worked your way through the early game, you can resolve a Hidden Stockpile and start sacrificing tokens to scry toward Anointed Procession. If you’re sacrificing tokens or Evolving Wilds you won’t ever really end up down on permanents, and can actually generate some free-ish blocks and life while you dig through your deck. Once you find an Anointed Procession, things start getting out of hand.
Particularly in this build, Cryptolith Rite is the next card you want. The difference between this build and Sam Black’s version from the Pro Tour is you have a little more in the way of mana sinks for your Cryptolith Rite. In addition to all the clues you generate off of Thraben Inspectors, you can find an Ulvenwald Mysteries to start generating more clues and keep triggering revolt, or just use Oketra the True to go really wide.
If you’re looking for an off the wall deck that will lead to some crazy board states, this seems like a completely reasonable place to be. The deck looks like a blast to play, and I can’t wait to see how people try to keep track of their tokens once there are multiple copies of Anointed Procession in play.
