Hey, everyone. I'm back again and done with the insanely busy time at my work. In the future, this should mean way more coverage of all of these great podcasts from week to week. I've got so much catching up to do this week that I'm going to be pretty brief, with my recaps being more of a quick-hit bullet-style recap than the more in-depth coverage I usually try to do.
I plan to get back to my normal coverage with next week's article. But for now . . . here we go!
CommanderCast #23 – Guest Spot Recursion
Running time 1 hour 14 minutes
- Andy, Byron, and Carlos are joined once again by Mr. Scotty Mac of The Eh Team.
- This week's Community segment features a few interesting topics: An MTGSalvation user has compiled over 1,500 Commander decks into one downloadable zip file, with all decks usable in Apprentice and Cockatrice and netdecking in Commander.
- In the Strategy segment of the week, the guys talk about Attrition decks.
- Finally, in the Technology segment, each of the hosts picks three cards from Scars of Mirrodin in order to rate them in Commander: one card that performed well, one that was not good, and one that surprised them by being better than expected.
CrazyTalk #6 – Financially Beneficial
Running time 2 hours 5 minutes
- KYT, Alex, Frank, and Jonathan talk with regular Legacy player Mark Sun about Legacy, recent tournament results, and more.
- Mark spends some time talking with the guys about the "GW Pandora" deck he has been playing.
- The crew recommend eternal-central.com as a great source for information about Legacy (and Vintage, too)!
Running time 2 hours 10 minutes
- This is a pretty awesome episode. In the vein of Limited Resources' regular set review shows before each prerelease, The Eh Team crew breaks down the current metagame for anyone planning to attend Nationals Qualifiers.
- The guys do a really great job of spending plenty of time on each of the major decks in the format, focusing on their strengths, weaknesses, matchup percentages, and sideboard strategies.
- An excellent listen for anyone interested in competing in today's metagame.
Forcespikes #21 – Woo-Tang Clan Ain't Nothing To . . .
Running time 1 hour 19 minutes
- John and Greg are joined by Judge Jerret and Travis Woo to discuss psychology in Magic, a few of Travis's rogue deck brews, and preparation for upcoming tournaments, with some discussion of the metagame leading up to Grand Prix: Dallas.
The Hardcast #10 – All About the GP
Running time 37 minutes
- Robert and Tristan once again review the week in ChannelFireball.com articles.
- The guys recommend an FNM deck of the week brewed by none other than The Eh Team's Smi77y.
- Tristan wraps up the week with his five cards to pick up and five cards to offload.
Horde of Notions #2 – Hashtag Ban Jack
Running time 1 hour 57 minutes
- Horde of Notions is a new podcast whose first episode was missed in my two-week hiatus. I was able to listen and did enjoy the show.
- The premise of Horde of Notions is simple, really: a podcast dedicated to out-of-the-box deck brewing, whether it is for competitive or casual Magic.
- The show is hosted by Chris Lansdell, Jack LaCroix, Noyan (of "Spreading Cheese" fame) and Adena (recently of Monday Night Magic fame).
- In Episode #2, the hosts are joined by CommanderCast's Carlos, spending some time discussing the recent #BanJace hashtag on Twitter and all of the fuss that has come with it.
- The group also talks about a few rogue deck ideas including a deck that seeks to use Psychic Vortex and decks trying to abuse One with Nothing.
- To wrap up the show, the crew capitalizes on Carlos's Commander expertise and discuss various ways to keep the format healthy and fun in anticipation of all the new players Wizards of the Coast hopes to attract with this summer's Commander-themed product.
In Contention #44 – New Phyrexia Spoilercast
Running time 1 hour 44 minutes
- With the recent leak of the full 175-card spoiler for New Phyrexia, Sam Stoddard and Kranny discuss the cards and speculate about the impact they will have on multiple formats, specifically Legacy and Standard.
Limited Resources #79 – Bye-Bye Miss Phyrexian Pie
Running time 1 hour 26 minutes
- Marshall and Ryan choose not to go through the entire leaked spoiler for New Phyrexia, despite its availability weeks earlier than expected, preferring instead to stick to WotC's scheduled spoiler plans.
- The guys talk about the new mechanics the set introduces, which are officially spoiled on the New Phyrexia Product Page.
The Magic Show #230 – The Spoiling of New Phyrexia
Running time 14 minutes
- Evan Erwin discusses the monumental leak of the entire New Phyrexia set weeks before the set release, and the impact it has on spoiler season.

Running time 56 minutes
- Robert Martin sits down with Joey Pasco of Yo! MTG Taps! and SCGLive.com fame to discuss his experience in becoming a household name in Magic coverage.

The Third Power #11 – Errata-ic Mutation
Running time 1 hour 43 minutes
- The Third Power is back again with Usman and Anthony discussing a really interesting cube topic: errata.
- I've never considered it as an option before, but the guys talk about a number of methods for errata-ing cards for purposes of Cube drafting.
Untapped #6 – Free Ballin' with Eric Klug
Running time 2 hours 15 minutes
- Jonathan, Frank, and J. R. are joined by the excellent Magic card-alter artist Eric Klug.
