Wizards had announced the expansion a few weeks ago but today, the expansion for the wildly popular 'Duels of the Planeswalkers' Xbox Live Arcade game is released. It gives players three new decks and a number of new cards to play with on the Xbox. Today is the release date for the expansion, and today Jay Schneider has an article on the Mothership. At Pro Tour Austin, Wizards divulged some very impressive numbers pertaining to the original Duels of the Planeswalkers game. Multiple people on their staff were noting that it had been downloaded over 300,000 times since its released. The number of downloads where most games are considered hits is to be downloaded 100,000 times total. And Wizards tripled that number in just a few months. So it is not much of a surprise to see Wizards eager to expand and press this game further.

The new expansion features decks for Jace Beleren, Sarkhan Vol, and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker. The decks in the expansion were also designed by the same R&D member who headed up the original game, Matt Place. We spoke with him when he came to Orlando for the Zendikar pre-release, and we spoke with him again at Pro Tour Austin and will be showing that interview in the upcoming weeks.

The game is a hit, and it is bringing a lot of players into Magic - whether for the first time or old players being drawn back in. Definitely go check it out if you have an Xbox, if you don't then go over to a buddy's house because the game is a ton of fun.
