SOE Shuts Down After Intrusion

Reddit

Last night Sony Online Entertainment took down their systems, removing players' ability to access Magic: The Gathering - Tactics. While details are not available yet, the company website brings up a maintenance page with the following message:

Dear Valued SOE Customers,

We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).

We apologize for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience.

We will update this report as we learn more.

Updated 9:31pm: Joystiq.com is reporting that 12,700 credit cards were taken, but the cards are from a 4 year old database. So, unless customers had the same credit card info then as they do when they got Magic: The Gathering - Tactics, then the customer data should be safe. SOE also, in a statement made to Joystiq.com, clarified that this is not an additional intrusion but a further level of attack found from last week's much publicized PSN intrusion.
