The Magic community are a jaded bunch. They've traveled the world playing their game and honing their craft. There are a finite number of things that truly get this group of gamers excited. But nothing seems to get the Magic the Gathering community's attention like free stuff. This contest generated well over 500 entries, and while some contests merely ask for a name and an email address, this one required those entrants to be creative and to give of themselves. We are truly honored to partner with Troll and Toad to be able to generate that kind of interest in this site, the game of Magic and Rise of the Eldrazi.
As with any contest of merit, the weight of 1000 suns rests squarely upon the shoulders of the judges. How does one choose between the heartfelt story of a deployed soldier who just wants to play Magic the Gathering when he gets home, and a hilariously clever haiku that several of our members worked so hard on? Who is more "deserving" of a free box of Magic cards?- The mother of two who can barely afford clothing for her children or the school teacher who needs a few cards to teach his students basic mathematics? Our staff (Leaf and I) were humbled by scores of entries detailing our audience's plights and merits. Ultimately, our decision came down to looking for a combination of need, desire, flair and the entrant's ability to follow directions.
The following runner-up entries were selected to receive one pack of Rise of the Eldrazi!
As the sun set in the western sky
He began to dream of days gone by
In a land filled with might and Magic
His story is both heroic and tragic
Carrion littered fields of gore
Ravens stabbing at every sore
The Eldrazi steps, how they quake
The sleeping children they do wake
Banished they were long before
Banished again they must be once more
To stand triumphant against this evil force
He’ll need a box of ’Rise of Eldrazi’, of course
Stewart of Valeron (Perry): Although there are plenty of people deserving of a booster box of RoE, I happen to be the most. Forgive me for sounding so pompous, for I can explain why: I am a hardworking boy (17 yrs.) who, due to my father’s layoff, has held a part-time job since 14. I would most definitely spend my money on such a coveted item, however all of my income currently goes to my mother’s chemotherapy from breast cancer. Now I’m not trying to be a “sob story”, but emphasize the fact that I work hard to treat myself to MTG, and my efforts just aren’t good enough. I hope I’m not coming off as selfish; by no means would I potentially shorten my mother’s life to play, but all of my “magic money” is made selling candy for an $0.11 profit per bar, which is simply not enough to scrape up money for one of these boxes.
thanks for listening,
Perry
Like an Eater of Days, I leave you in a Paradox Haze
Don’t wanna hear your Ardent Plea, when we are in a Fight to the Death, I show No Mercy
MTG is my Stomping Ground, with Akroma here as my Gate Hound
I wont be beat this century, when I “one” drop my mogg sentry
Look into the Lich’s Mirror, and see that it is I you Fear
There will never be a Planeswalker as skilled as me, as far as I can Foresee
Truth or Tale be told, this is why The RoE Boster Box I should hold
The following bonus pack will be awarded to the following entrant. We hope it is real... for all our sakes... and say hello to Layla for me.
I need this booster box for one reason:
Once I win, this is sooooo going on Youtube! I’ll open the packs and pull all 36 rares out and place them on my naked body. Then I’ll get my kiddie pool and fill it up with Jello pudding and have a fight with my girlfriend Layla…like oh em gee!
I swear I’m not a 40 yr old fat dude pretending to be a hot chick…you can believe me *wink wink*
Congratulations everyone! All of you were in a close running for the Grand Prize but only one entry can take this day! So, without further delay.... the winner of an entire box of Rise of the Eldrazi booster packs furnished by our friends at Troll and Toad is....

Nicol Bolas?!
What in the Multiverse?! Of all the... I'm sorry folks, there must be some mistake... Elder Dragons are NOT allowed in our contests. I'm almost positive I menti...
HA HA HA HA HA! Yet, another Booster Box for my ever expanding collection. Soon, Gideon and Sarkhan and.. that other planeswalker will all be mine! I wonder if I'll get a foil Eldra....
Sir. Your Elderlyness. This contest was supposed to be for the people! To spread the joy of Magic the Gathering to those who do not have the means to...wait.. How do you already have five boxes of Rise of the Eldrazi?! It's not even out until April 23rd! And why do you carry them around with you?...
Silly human. Do you really think your feeble human concepts of "contest rules" or "the time-space continuum" or "balancing five boxes of cards on my tail whilst flying" are going to stop this?! *Nicol points up and down his enormous dragon-body with his wing*
I suppose not. But, Your Dragonliness, please! I'll do anything... just... give us back the box. Our winner is the very definition of the word "deserving." Anything sir, I am your humble servant.
Anything, you say? *hurrumph* Foolish drone. You would give of yourself? Of your eternal soul for these... these worldly, perishable, effects? What could I possibly want from a whiney, second-rate blogger? I'll bet you guys haven't even gotten an exclusive spoiler from Wizards yet! Such a narrow mindset you humanoids have.. even with the spark... wait... your spark... You are a planeswalker, correct?
Well... Yes?
Then go to the artificial plane of Mirrodin and await my orders. There are some Scars that need... our attention on this plane. Do this before October 1st, 2010 and I will give you your precious box back.
*Reinhart thinks it over for several long moments* I will do this. Our winner is most deserving and you are exceedingly generous, Lord Bolas. Please accept my most sincere...
October, planeswalker. *Nicol Bolas planeswalks into the ether, leaving only smoke and a glittering, factory sealed, booster box where he once stood*
*Reinhart picks up the box and scatters the dust off the top with a quick puff of breath*

Sorry about that folks. He usually calls first. As you can tell, Nicol and I go way back. Good friends, good friends. Wasn't it generous of him to give us back our booster box? What a great guy. Anyway, on to the real, grand prize winner of our Troll and Toad furnished, factory sealed, Nicol Bolas blessed, booster box of Rise of the Eldrazi!
And the winner is...

ADAM!
thanks for consideration, love the site.
Congratulations Adam! We're happy to make sure these cards are put to good use! Make sure they visit GatheringMagic.com for all of their MTG needs, okay? Have fun with the sealed draft. All of our winners should be receiving an email tonight asking for your address. The quicker you reply, the sooner you'll get your prize! (Though we can't get them to you any faster than the Official Release Date of April 23rd! Only Nicol Bolas can do that..) I want to congratulate our winners and thank EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU who took the time to enter our contest. There were truly some creative, funny, touching and inspiring entries. This was a huge success for everyone involved and this all but guarantees that we'll be doing more givaways in the future so be on the lookout for that!
Win or Lose, I hope you all enjoyed writing, reading and planeswalking with your fellow Magic players. We really wanted to showcase more than six entries but alas, with spoilers cropping up every day, we only have time to feature the winners! I encourage you all to go back and thumb through some of the entries on the original contest page. Some of them are just fantastic! Congratulations again, to our winners. I'd like to thank Troll and Toad one last time for the awesome prize support. We hope to see you all around the site in the future!
Be sure to Pre-Order your own RoE Booster box from T&T before Nicol Bolas gets 'em!
