Budget Commander: Two Types with Rendmaw, Creaking Nest

Hello happy folks! I hope your day is going super mega well! Today I've got a fun treat for you! A Budget Commander take around an unusual archetype just opened up by the Duskmourn Commander set, in the two types matter, called: Magic.

Rendmaw, Creaking Nest

Rendmaw, Creaking Nest! This five-cost Golgari colored artifact dork is a 5/5 menace on curve with evasion and reach too. Then it turns plays of two types into everyone getting a goaded and tapped 2/2 flying Bird. That's nasty good here! Note that's "play" so it counts lands, but they'll need both types on the stack, so if you cast a split or Aftermath card, just one type is on the stack, no to triggers.

Let's turn to artificing dork mana smoothing! The three-drop uncommon sac for three 2/2 is first, and it'll ramp two to your battlefield tapped so if you don't have Green or Black or both, this'll work nicely. The common two-drop Pauper legal Green tapper is next, on a 1/1 body. It's the only cheap one on the secondary market since Green is cheaper 1/1 one-drop Llanowar Elves option. The flying three-drop 1/1 has an ETB trigger to search for a basic and put it into your hands, no ramp here, but has flying.

Now let's turn to a weird three-drop 1/2 flip dork that taps for any color of your mana: Foreboding Statue. You also toss an omen counter and transform to the 5/5 Forsaken Thresher when there are three to make one mana each of your precombats for free. I am running all three-drop mana smoothing artifact dorks that are cheap. I need sorcery ramp that'll give you two lands, like the pricey Cultivate and Kodama's Reach which are a few dollars each. But not the scrying Peregrination! It's great to get sorceries into my graveyard early.

Now let's turn to lands, I needed cheap card draw, so enter Grim Backwoods. I love this with your Bird dorks or to get delirium, the common indestructible artifact land Darkmoss Bridge is next! I also tossed in the two cheap artifact lands Scene of the Crime which is very strong here adding a land for delirium and triggers Rendmaw, and then Power Depot.

7.44 total!

Synergies and Win Conditions, Take one

Now let's turn to synergies and winning conditions! The four-drop Golgari 2/3 artifact dork 2/3 that makes two 1/1 Black and Green flying Insects with flying on arrival is first. It's an Anthem for them and Spiders too with delirium and gives them all deathtouch. The four-drop Green reach enchantment dork 3/5 is next. She has a trigger when a foe casts a spell to make a 1/2 Spider token with reach. Both her and her tokens are pumpable and deathtouch-able with the first.

I need planeswalkers, and the recent printing of old version of Grist, the Hunger Tide is sold out here. It's a three-drop three loyalty that counts as 1/1 Insect and planeswalker everywhere but in play, so that counts the stack too. Then you can +1 them to make a 1/1 Insect and mill and if one was milled, you make another. Then you can -2 them to sac a dork and then destroy a dork or planeswalker. Formless Genesis costs three, and then will make a changeling dork sized to your lands in graveyard count and it's got retrace to pump and counts as Insect for Grist and both for The Swarmweaver pump above.

Next let's embrace delirium for more than The Swarmweaver in my colors that are dorks and with something else too. When Demolisher Spawn swings with delirium you'll pump your team by +4/+4, and Wickerfolk Thresher has an attack delirium trigger as well. The two-drop Osseous Sticktwister artifact dork in Black has lifelink and an EOT trigger with delirium to have each opponent discard and sac a nonland, and take its power in damage if not. I love devotion in a deck with this many permanents, enter the first two. The four-drop uncommon legendary enchantment and dork with X/3 body equal to your devotion to Green is great there. The five-drop 2/4 mono-Black devotion one wins and drains life equal to your devotion. The three-drop 3/3 trample is great here since you can mill pre combat, and then when it swings randomly it gets a size boost equal to your card types in your graveyard and then indestructible too. Love it loads here!!!

Now let's turn to removal! First is kindred instant five-cost that'll destroy any non-critter! That was the first spell I added here. The second to last added was the 5/5 flying and trample (rough double evasion to stop since you cannot chump it with Fog Bank or block it with grounded stuff). You sac a dork/enchantment on cast to have everyone else sac a non-token one of each. Yours can be tokens, theirs cannot.

Then I added a way to answer all Bird tokens if they come your way with Maelstrom Pulse. The sorcery will destroy any nonland, like a worse Vindicate and then all others with the same name. The next card added was Echoing Decay to give a dork -2/-2 this round and then also all others with the same name. Ditto Bile Blight. The last card added here was sweeper Deluge of Doom to give all dorks get -X/-X equal to your cards of each type! Fun stuff!

Let's start with the one-drop enchantment dork 1/2 with a two-mana sac ability for an artifact or dork to draw that card! The four-drop artifact dork that has a 1/1 size and indestructible is next and ETBS with a suspect counter. It has a combat damage trigger to draw a card and lose that life, and then also if dealt damage to have a foe lose that much life, so people may not wat to block it.

Idol of Oblivion costs two, taps for nothing to draw that card if you made a token this turn! You can also tap and sac it with eight to make a 10/10 Eldrazi dork. Ob Nixilis Reignited costs five mana for five loyalty and +1s to draw a card and lose a life, and he can minus to destroy creatures.

Deathreap Ritual costs four in Golgari colors to draw EOT if something died and that's every EOT not just yours! So you can sac or chump block and then get that every turn. The dork common four-drop 1/2 critter Pygmy Kavu will trigger an ETB to draw equal to each Black dork all of your foes control and since your Birds you are handing out are Black...I think you can see why t's here!

Sandwurm Convergence

Let's play a game...I want ways to stop attacks from flyers or to punish them, enter this enchantment duo!! The eight-drop will make them unable to attack you flat out, and then in your EOT you'll drop a free 5/5 Wurm token which will beat and kill. The three-drop uncommon will shoot them for four when they swing by way. And with goad they must swing my way in 1:1 so they'll die.

I like the win con back up of Blood Seeker. I liked delirium here so I grabbed every feasible one including Crop Sigil, the one-drop common enchantment will mill one, and then get sacced for three to raise a dork and land from your graveyard. Let's Play a Game costs four, and then you can choose one of three like a Charm but with delirium? All three! Mass discard, removal or win con.

I tossed in this rare pair with delirium and removal. Inexorable Blob has an attack trigger to make an attacking 3/3 Ooze when it swings, and Duplicant will exile a foe on arrival and then gain its power and toughness and creature types too for our Insect/Spider caring in case of copies.

The enchantment gives all of our stuff reach and a better toughness too. The enchantment dork costs six for a 2/3 dork that gives your team deathtouch. This combo will shut down any attacker in the air or ground all up and down the block!!
