Ever since Lightning Bolt, Stone Rain and Shatter, Red has spells that pinpoint remove things you need to! Today we'll be looking at all of the best pinpoint removal spells in Red for Commander and multiplayer! As a reminder, this is pinpoint removal, not sweepers like Blasphemous Act, etc. This is a sequel to White's here (https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-11082024-top-ten-pinpoint-removal-spells-from-White-for-commander-and-casual), Blue's here (https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-seo-12192024-the-top-Blue-pinpoint-removal-spells-for-multiplayer-Magic) and Black's here (https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-12272024-top-ten-pinpoint-removal-for-Black-for-commander) check them out too! Ready? Indeed!
Honorable Mention #1. (#14. Overall) - Fissure AND Aftershock
This rarely played common duo is next. They will destroy a land, sure! Then they can destroy a dork as well! Note this doesn't burn, so no matter the toughness this will answer them! The Fissure costs five at instant speed and the dork you target cannot be regenerated, it's buried. The four-mana sorcery also can target an artifact too! But you'll lose a trio of life when it resolves, not bad for its price at all!
Honorable Mention #2. (#13. Overall) Seal of Fire AND Pyrite Spellbomb
These two classic one-drops are next! They come down on the first turn, and then get sacrificed for 2 damage to something's face, like a dork. They'll often keep things back from attacking you early game with a 1 or 2 toughness that would die, they'll just head elsewhere to open players. These are great Rattlesnakes to play keep away and keep things down. They can also be recurred by Artifact and Enchantment recursion too, or tutored by them as well! Get it and try it and love these classics lots!
Honorable Mention #3. (#12. Overall) - Shattering Pulse
This two mana Shatter variant has a buyback of three mana to put it back into your hand not your library! Just keep on casting and recasting over and over again! I like this very much in decks with the Spellslinger with instants/sorceries cast and then triggering Guttersnipe or Young Pyromancer...right? Right! Be honest, you forgot this existed, right?
Honorable Mention #4. (#11. Overall) - Untimely Malfunction
This two-mana charm is next! One option is to destroy an artifact all up and down the block, and then Misdirection and force non blocks, love it loads!
#10. Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
I've got our highest scoring land right here with this landfall of a Mountain for a Lightning Bolt to everyone or thing's face! The only issue is that it has to be dropped with enough Mountains to landfall kill! Valakut is vala-awesome!
#9. Sundering Eruption, Cleansing Wildfire AND Geomancer's Gambit
This trilogy of stuff will destroy a land like Stone Rain, but then they'll ramp a basic. The latter two are cantrips and the first is a modal spell land you can toss in without pulling a nonland so all three have value! You can also use these to ramp yourself!
#8. Shatterskull Smashing // Shatterskull, the Hammer Pass
This X spell modal spell// land is my highest charting one. You can shoot two X stuff targets! Did you spend at least 6? Double damage! Two for one, in your land base, what's not to love there? I'm sure you can see why I love it much!
#7. Grapeshot
This two-mana sorcery that shoots any target for a damage is next! It's got storm to clear out a bunch of planeswalkers, dorks, or players too! Clear it out and then win it out all around the clock!
#6. Comet Storm
Our final spell before the top 5 and then top scoring X spell is this double-Red instant! It shoots any target for X damage and then has that awesome multikicker for that sweet damage to each other target for each extra kicker you pay! Love it loads!
#5. Wild Magic Surge
This two-mana instant is next! You'll destroy any permanent, even enchantments normally not killable by our good color! But.....they'll reveal cards from their library and then drop it to the battlefield that shares a type. So yeah, destroy at instant speed that Omniscience or land, but they are guaranteed another, so don't do it unless sorely needed. Note unlike say Polymorph, you cannot target your stuff. It says "opponent" in the first line. Sorry friends.
#4. Flametongue Kavu
This four-drop 4/2 uncommon dominated Standard when legal from our first multicolor block! When this ETBs it has to shoot a dork for a quartet of damage! Note the word "may" isn't here. Neither is "other" so it can shoot itself. This got tons of play in casual then and used to be a default card in every red deck in Commander! But today, they're in just 4688 decks on EDHREC.com...why? I don't get it...run them again! Fall with them all over again! (Thanks...)
#3. Lightning Bolt
Bolt the Birds! This one-cost common and Modern-legal powerhouse is ready to rock and drop and shoot any target for three damage! I don't often run it in my brews here for you on CoolStuffInc.com outside of either burn or budget stuff, but it's better the faster your foe's curve, the better this is since there are a few turns of things cast this can kill like most one, two and three-drops and many early planeswalkers and Commanders too. Our awesome writer Paige Smith wrote about it here (https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/paigesmith-09272023-learning-to-love-lightning-bolt-in-commander).
#2. Abrade
Hello happy two mana two removal option fans! This uncommon will either destroy an artifact for Shatter's cost or Bolt a critter! Love it way much! Both options are so awesome since Commander and multiplayer are all about not knowing what you'll be against so I love adding in flexible removal like this into my removal suite! I'm sure y'all love it all up and down the block too! I hear you! And then...there was one!
#1. Chaos Warp
Ah yes, Chaos Warp! Ever since it was printed waaaaaay back in the first Commander decks this has become the default removal spell! They'll shuffle the targeted permanent, so that's not answerable by things like indestructible, and it cannot be recurred too. Then they reveal the top card and if it's a permanent, it gets tossed onto the battlefield. Sometimes you'll toss this on your thing to try for an emergency problem or answer. This has to be here, nothing else is close. It's also pretty cheap on the secondary market, so buy them, run them, love them!
What did you think of my penultimate color in red and Top Ten Removal spells for Commander/Multiplayer of a pinpoint nature? It's deep and you could add in things like Avalanche Riders or others. Have an awesome day, and we'll see you next week for Top Ten Green Pinpoint Removal Spells to finish this all up and down!
