Top Burn Commanders for Your Consideration!
Hello happy Lightning Bolt fans! I've got your Top Burn Commanders for your consideration today! Burn is one of the most popular archetypes in Commander, so let's see what there is to cook with!
Honorable Mention
Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot
Hellocard draw fans! I've got your conversion of non-combat damage to drawing that sweet, sweet card if you deal exactly what the target's toughness is! Then you can tap her and increase that damage to make it card draw able. Turn that Bolt into 6 to kill that Consecrated Sphinx and draw a card too. I'm sure you can see why it's here.
Firesong and Sunspeaker
Back-to-back Boros Buddies, literally here. This six-drop 4/6 pair and then your red spells have lifelink and when your White spells gain life you can shoot them or their stuff for 3 damage. You'll want Boros colored burn stuff since lifelink to shoot and kill and then after to shoot for another three damage. Love it loads!
Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might // Temple of Power
This four-drop mono-Red God with trample and a 4/4 damage will turn any noncombat damage less than his power into it instead! So, if you Shock, it'll deal a minimum of four with him out instead. But only when you shoot foes and only if the damage is fewer. When he dies, he flips to Temple which taps for red and then transforms back with 3 mana!
Torbran, Thane of Red Fell
There was a time when Torbran would have topped this list easily, but a bunch of recent arrivals that top him. He's a harder to cast three red mana on a four-drop 2/4, with one simple ability...when your red stuff would deal damage to a foe or their stuff? Deal another two damage! Note a few things here, first, it's doesn't read you or your stuff, so an Earthquake or Pyroclasm won't hit you or your stuff for more damage. Then this is missing the word "noncombat" so swinging and blocking will add 2 too! He's keen to lead your next deck!
#5. Solphim, Mayhem Dominus
This four-drop 5/4 leader is next! You can have your noncombat damage doubled! Not increased by two for Torbran above nor just for Red stuff either, but all of it! Then you can discard two and toss an indestructible counter here when someone is about to kill it and you need it on the board, but don't lean on that too much since many might just Swords it after.
#4. Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph
This Izzet colored three-drop with ward 2 to protect a bit is next. Then when you would deal precisely one damage to something deal 2 instead. From Pingers to Arc Lightning that's a brand new archetype! Love them here loads!
#3. Judith, Carnage Connoisseur
Our highest-hitting Black one is this Standard-legal Rakdos five-drop 3/4 with a Spellslinger trigger to give it deathtouch and lifelink, which is why it's here. Or if there is nothing to kill or your spell isn't burn like Sign in Blood, make a 2/2 Imp with that death trigger to shoot each foe for four damage. Deathtouch means all burns are Murder and lifegain too!
#2. Niv-Mizzet, Visionary
This six-drop Izzet colored flying 5/5 Dragon says you've got no max hand size! Then when you deal that noncombat damage to a foe? Draw that card! This is just released, but it's made for this archetype all up and down the block! Get it, run it, love it!
#1. Imodane, the Pyrohammer
Our top leading lady is this 4 mana is pretty fun! She turns single target damage to a dork like Lightning Bolt into that much damage to all foes, so three to them all from that Bolt! Love that in the Command Zone so much. She's pretty special too!
There we go! I hope that you enjoyed my Top Burn Commanders to lead your next deck! What have you used, and have these worked for you? What did I miss or overrate? Let me know!
