Hello happiest of folks I hope that your day is finding you as well as possible! Today I wanted to finish my Commanders from the recently released Aetherdrift by taking look at the Esper colored sub-Commander from the Esper Zombie matters-brew Eternal Might.
Hashaton, Scarab's Fist costs two Orzhov for a 1/3 blockable body and then a discard dork trigger to spend three mana including Blue to make a tapped token of the dork that was discarded save it's a 4/4 Zombie. It's not exiled, so we are running reanimation to get them out twice. I am not building around Zombie kindred but discard and reanimation. Ready?
Mana, Rocks, Ramp and Lands
Let's start with that boring mana stuff to cast my spells with! The Celestus is first with the ability to tap for any color and then with three at sorcery speed to make it day or night and that will draw and discard a card as well as when it ETBs. Nice looting card flow from an on-curve rock!
Now let's turn to these three flying plainscyling for two mana that will put a nonbasic one into your hand if you've got one otherwise a basic one will suffice. The Angel costs seven for an okay artifact body 5/7 size with the ETB to exile two artifacts or enchantments, note the use of the phrased "up to" there. Love that exile removal much. The Dragon costs five for an 5/5 flyer with Eternalize for 4 to get exiled and then come back as a 4/4 Black Zombie Dragon! The pricier Dragon Spirit also has a 5/5 size and then you can recur it from your graveyard to your hand for five mana in your upkeep, great after discarding to trigger the tapped Zombie clone of this with Hashaton and then plainscycled. Do it again and again!
Now let's turn to more evasive swamp and then islandcycling here! The six-drop common Troll of Khazad-dum with a 6/5 size can't be blocked save by three (or more) dorks and then has a cheap first turn swampcycling for one mana. The one more mana one fewer power with menace and backup two to be a 7/7 with menace or make another bigger Gloomfang Mauler is also here. Tidal Terror has an attack trigger to tap two other dorks to make it unblockable this turn, yay!
Let's turn to boring lands with the colorless tapping ETB untapped and taps with two to regenerate our Zombie tokens and random dorks here and there. Then the Blue tapping for damage one with threshold likely here, sacs with one mana and then draws you three and discards three too, great looting and card flow!
Spymaster's Vault often ETBs tapped and then taps with B to give your dork connive equal to your dying dork count, massively great here! Takenuma, Abandoned Mire doesn't ETB tapped and then can be channeled for no more than four mana to mill three and then Raise Dead any dork or planeswalker to your hand from anything not just what was milled, and discarding this can trigger many, but not your Commander.
The common Raceway from Hashaton's set too is with start your engines and then grows into max speed and will tap with three to discard and draw to trigger your stuff! Then I also tossed in Geier Reach Sanitarium for all to draw and discard. The legendary colorless tapping taps with two one a Black mana to reload a dead dork to the top of your library to draw it again, a total powerhouse here!
Cool Reanimation Spells and Dorks to Bring Back
Now let's turn to things to reanimate/copy with my Commander or reanimation stuff! The mono-Blue legendary 7/7 Nezahal, Primal Tide cannot be countered, great to resolve and then you have no max hand size and then when your foes cast nondorks draw and you can discard three to flicker it out to save it from any removal. The 6/6 trampling Black dork Scion of Darkness has cycling and a combat damage trigger to bring back a dead dork from their graveyard to your battlefield. It's great and often forgotten about today.
The one-mana common enchantment is next you can spend one mana to raise a dork to your hand by discarding a dork - great way to trigger Hashaton et all while bringing stuff back. You can use it early to discard a later dork for what was just killed or died in combat or that you land or normally cycled and then keep it up! The one-drop uncommon will swap two life and two mana to Raise Dead for more cycling /discard tricks too!
Oversold Cemetery will Raise Dead a dork for free in your upkeep to your hand as long as you have four dorks there. Then discard or cycle it or just cast it! I also tossed in things like Reanimate and Karmic Guide. Then the two-drop 1/1 flyer Likeness Looter can tap with no mana to draw and discard triggering and then spend X at sorcery speed to make this a copy of what's in your graveyard and then it's got flying like this and can recopy something else later.
Synergies and Winning Conditions
And now synergies and other backup win cons! Since our Commander has a discard trigger to make a copy I thought it would be great if I tossed in every discard trigger into dorks too like these four or Wharf Infiltrator and others. The five-drop 4/4 Zombie makes 2/2 Black Zombies when you discard that dork, and then lands discarded are a pair of mana and others are card draw. Love that flexibility here much! The three-mana rare Blue enchantment will turn anything discarded of yours into a 2/2 Drake flyer if you spend a mana.
The three-mana rare Black one will turn discards into 2/2 tapped Zombies too, but just once per turn. The uncommon three mana White enchantment turns any discards into a 1/1 Spirit flyer if you spend a White mana. Note that works for any discards not just yours. Love than when your foes are discarding and then drawing in red like Big Score or with your Geier Reach Sanitarium.
Faith of the Devoted turns discards into draining 2 life from each foe, strong win con, but you gotta spend a mana. Mystic Redaction will turn discards into your foes milling two each and then you'll get a free scry 1 in your upkeep.
When you untap the Pilferer you can draw a card if you spend two mana and then draw when goes cast spells that ain't from their hand too. It's here with that discard to make it unblockable. The two-drop artifact will tap for nothing too to discard and make something unblockable for triggering and then when it untaps pay two to draw. Then the five mana planeswalker is the last card in our section with five loyalty. You can +1 her to mill two and make a tapped 2/2 Zombie token. Then you can -3 her to Zombify a dork to your battlefield that counts as a Black Zombie too. Zombie note! Love her filling your graveyard, making tokens and reanimation much here.
Answers
Now let's turn to answers to stuff your foes bring in the form of counters like this dork flashing duo! The three mana 3/1 flyer can cycle for three too to counter an activated ability. Then the dork with flash and flying and 1/1 base body counters anything and then grows in size equal to what was countered cost. I also tossed in cheap hard counters Arcane Denial and Counterspell.
The three-mana madness one will ETB and destroy a fat dork. Then your eight-drop mythic 6/6 flyer ETBS and attacks too to have their foe sacrifice a dork or walker of the planes and then discard and lose three life and you draw and also gain 3 too. Great with copies here! Then the legendary 4/5 five-drop in Black with menace and then ETBs and then each foe gets Edicted and then five mana will transform her to the Saga with each foe losing another dork or 'walker and then each foe loses three cards from their grip and mills three and then you can put them all onto your battlefield and then this becomes her! Wowzer Bowzer here with that synergy to fill graveyards and then bring back all of your stuff and theirs too.
Now let's turn to mass removal. Since we are filling up that graveyard, I wanted the five-mana sorcery Living Death that swaps in play and graveyard stuff! When you are built around it, it ends games! Then Archfiend of Ifnir has cycling for two and when you discard or cycle puts a -1/-1 counter on all opposing dorks! I also tossed in Karn's Bastion to help and the uncommon Ruthless Sniper to pay one when you discard to toss another -1/-1 counter on a dork to finish them off and drop it turn one to stop Esper Sentinel or Birds of Paradise stuff early. Then you can overload Winds of Abandon on all opposing dorks.
Card Flow
And now...card flow! Typically, not my card draw here like Concentrate to Sign in Blood but looting to draw and discard like Frantic Search to trigger us all. Like this trio! The legendary two-drop 0/2 taps to draw and discard and then if our graveyard is big enough it'll flip. I also tossed in legendary flip dork looter tapper Rona, Herald of Invasion too. The four-drop three loyalty planeswalker is next with the ability to be used on all turns and you can +1 him to loot a card and then do that four turns in a four-player game and then -3 to protect himself with giving a dork phasing and -10 to Time Stretch nasty here. The two-drop 2/1 flyer is a Zombie by the by and then gives your dorks all cycling for two mana. Get your trigger on!
Ledger Shredder has connive for when each player cast their second spell each turn, you'll loot tons here mana free! Then Curator of Mysteries has cycling for one mana and then discard triggers to scry! Then our three-drop artifact Monument to Endurance once per turn turns discards into cards drawn or a Treasure token making or a win con of three life loss from your foes!
This is our last slate! The three-drop 2/1 ETBs and you draw two and discard two and then when you eternalize it you can draw four and discard two. Then the six-drop 5/4 flyer ETBs and attacks with drawing two and then discarding one. Then when you discard you can Shrink their power equal to your different mana cost in your graveyard, great synergy there. Then the three-drop enchantment draws you one card per turn when your tokens ETB. Then you can spend a mana to make a Clone token copy of your thing. Then four mana to pump tokens by +2/+2 very strong here with our many tokens from discards!
Finally, Compulsion will discard to draw rather than draw to discard. This guarantees that you'll always have a card drawn from your discards sorta like giving them all cycling and is ideal at digging or trigging our stuff. Love it much here!
