Hello awesome folks! I hope your day is going super mega well! I held back from giving you my top cards from the recently released Commander set with the core Bloomburrow until after I spent the last few weeks with the normal set, and now we are looking at the set designed for the format of Commander with it. Since it's designed for kitchen table play like Commander, multiplayer, Highlander, Five Color, Peasant, and Type Four, it's better to spend an entire week with it than just add that stuff to my normal set. Please note that no reprints should be appearing here, just new stuff.
Ready? I got cha, let's roll this thing out!
#16. Murmuration
This five-drop White enchantment is first! It has an EOT trigger for just your turn. You'll make one free 1/2 flyer Bird for each spell you cast on your turn. This is any spell from dorks to Auras. Then they, and your other Birds, will get a +1/+1 in size and be 2/3 in size instead. J'adore this way too much to speak of!
#15. Zinnia, Valley's Voice
Let's move to a face Commander legendary dork from this three-drop three colored (Jeskai) Commander eligible flying 1/3 drop. It gets a perma power pump equal to your 1 power stuff. Then you can give your dorks offspring 2 so he's an offspring lord. Love him loads and you'll love how powerful offspring is when breaking it with triggers and stuff. Note that many White and colorless stuff also care about small powers like Meekstone and Delney. I love this loads! Imagine the power of small stuff matters from Mentor of the Meek to Marble Titan play into this space. Get it and run it and break it too.
#14. Sword of the Squeak
This rare equipment is next! Two to drop, and equip too. The equipped dork gets +1/+1 for each small toughness or power dork you have so it's a win-con in Zinnia decks and then also other aggro and 1/1 token decks like Saprolings and Squirrels. See also Soldiers and Goblins. This can be a free equip when the right kindred type arrives, but it's fine outside of it. I don't like the pun name though, that's awful. Don't just run it there with Kindred, but anywhere with a number of 1 toughness or power stuff.
#13. Hazel of the Rootbloom
Now let's turn to another face leader from a Commander Deck this time the four-drop Golgari colored token caring 3/5 with a blocking body and tap pay 2 life and tap X tokens to make that many mana in any colors. Great stuff! Then in your EOT this will trigger and make a token copy of a token. Was it a Squirrel? Great, make two! Free copies of tokens in your EOT that you can use for mana or other stuff is great. Don't get caught up with the Squirrel ness, its great everywhere from Treasures to Zombies to copies like Kiki-Jiki. Get and run this thing in the 99 or leading your next token brew!
#12. Octomancer
This five-cost undercurved 3/3 Simic dork is next! You can gift a massive 8/8 to your foes to maybe make a free copy this turn, and then other free copies on future turns of tokens that arrived anywhere. Note that's every end step, not just yours. We all know how beloved the token archetype is, this too!!
#11. Hazel's Brewmaster
Next is this four-drop in our list! It's got evasion in menace and then a 3/4 body and an attack trigger or ETB to exile one card from any graveyard and make a free Food token for you too. Love this as a bit of graveyard answering while doing other stuff like Bojuka Bog. Then your Food gains the exiled card abilities if it was a dork. Love it way much to answer and push your board state forward too while you do so. She's good to go Idaho.
#10. Trailtracker Scout
Hello fans of Green and ramp! Our next two-drop blocking body of 1/3 is next for two mana that taps for one mana of any color! Then when you expend that 8 mana you get a free Regrowth - not too shabby from where I am sitting right?
#9. Twenty-Toed Toad
Everyone loves alternate win cons from milling to poison counters! This gives you the ability to rock a hand of 20. Did you attack with two or more dorks? Great! Tossed a counter here and draw that card. Once there are 20 here and in your hand, you get that win con on!
#8. Agate Instigator
This two-drop offspring two blockable Red 1/3 body is next! With the ability to turn the arrival of dorks on your side of the battlefield into a pinging of one damage to each foe, this is a rare (literally and figuratively) win-con on two bodies to help protect from targeted removal and then turns ETBs to win. Note this is red, in the color of non-combat damage increasers or things like Torbran, Thane of Red Fell. With offspring this is the same cost as the nasty Commander Classic Purphoros, God of the Forge.
#7. Jacked Rabbit
This two-drop White rare with an X in its cost is next! Its base size is a smaller 1/2. Then this gets +1/+1 counters like a Hydra on arrival to the battlefield, so it's a bit of a mana sink outside of Green that's nice right there. Then it has an attack trigger to make its power in 1/1 rabbit, so it's spawns a lot, and that's not counters but power so base one and then it can also include Auras like Rancor, equipment like Bonesplitter or Sword of Fire and Ice or +1/+1 effect from enchantments like Glorious Anthem. He is so awesome possum as both a going tall mana sink and a going wide token maker. Doubling Season loves him.
#6. Echoing Assault
Our final card before the Top Five proper is this mono-red enchantment! It doesn't give all of your stuff menace just your tokens, but that's nice evasion. Then you get an attack trigger. This will make a free attacking copy of a non-token you control that's now a 1/1 like offspring. Then you sac it EOT, not exile, so it'll trigger death, sac, and leaves play stuff like Blood Artist or Mayhem Devil. This is ideal with ETB triggers like Flametongue Kavu, Solemn Simulacrum and Avalanche Riders in color or Eternal Witness and Ravenous Chupacabra and Mulldrifter and Acidic Slime outside of it!
#5. Pollywog Prodigy
Top Five Time! This Blue two-drop 1/3 with evolve is next! It has a triggered ability to draw that sweet card when a foe casts a noncreature spell with a mana value less than its power. Base that means zero drops will trigger it. Then you can increase its power to increase it's card drawing threat range. Evolve works with that base and then others will too. Note that there are no one/turn breaks here, as long as your foe is casting cheap non-creature spells, you are drawing that card. I hope you can see why it's here!
#4. Mr. Foxglove
Our penultimate hitting gold legendary dork is this five-drop Commander eligible Bant colored 3/5 with lifelink! As you can see, it has an attack trigger to draw equal to your cards in your hand minus what's in your foes! If they don't have enough to draw, no worries, drop a free critter onto the battlefield, without paying it's cost. That's so nasty together! It's pretty fun in the sun! Note that our good husband is not in the color of red so no haste stuff, just equipment like Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves will work here.
#3. Rootcast Apprenticeship
Our top scoring sorcery and Green card hit the third spot! Your four mana nets you a four choice Command but you can choose the same mode and have three options. You can perma-pump a dork, make a copy token, make a 1/1 token or force a foe to sac a nontoken artifact, so tokens, pump, or removal. That's not bad at all from where I am galumphing around!
#2. Arthur, Marigold Knight
#2 on my list and #1 in your hearts is our top dork, permanent, and Blue and Red card! This five-drop Jeskai colored on curve has haste with a 4/5 body with an attack trigger for him and another dork! What does it do? Dig six and drop a dork attacking tapped and attacking. Then you bounce it EOT. I rate a free dork from the deck more than a free dork from your hand since this has no other restrictions just attack with two. Drop! Bounce to keep it safe from sorcery speed removal. I love New-thur loads, I hope you will too!
#1. Perch Protection
My favorite card from Commander Bloomburrow style is this six-cost instant! You make a crazy number of 2/2 flying Birds (four) so 8 flying power for six mana. Nice rate of return. You can cast that instantly to make flyers to block a lethal attack on you or EOT to attack someone for 8 damage out of nowhere. You can also gift a turn to save your team too like Teferi's Protection phasing it out. There used to be an iconic flying token maker in the default casual format of the day called Five Color that made up to five 1/1 flyers if you had domain and you often killed many after making a horde, and at instant speed for one more with no set up and with bigger bodies this is amazing. Try it and let me know your thoughts even without the Teferi's Protection option!
And there we go! I hope that you enjoyed my deep dive into the new stuff from the precon decks that came with it! Enjoy!
