Top SupHello happy folks! Wow do I have a fun opportunity for top Commander supports for the archetype called "Spellslinger" where you cast instant/sorcery and trigger stuff. This is not looking at the leaders and Commanders, but the support cards. Ready?
Honorable Mention #1. (#7. Overall) - Mass Recursion
First are the three mass recursion spells above! The best and first and restricted in Vintage it's so powerful is the Black rare three cost sorcery that lets you recast all of your stuff and drop lands too this turn. This will let you recast triggers and spells too! Many called it the most broken card draw spell in Vintage over Ancestral Recall. The overload four cost Red one (8 to overload) will cast, for free, one spell from your graveyard and it self-exiles. Strong! The last one is also four, flashes back for five, and gives all of your stuff flashback this turn equal to their cost. The last two cost less than a buck here! Nasty mass recursion trio!
Honorable Mention #2. (#6. Overall) - Kess, Dissident Mage
Next is another castable flashback recursion engine, this time one at a time rather than all at once. She is Grixis with a fine evasive 3/4 body. Thus, you'd have to run her in the 99 of Black-adjacent brews or as the leader of one. Please note that, like Past in Flames, this cost is also the same as their casting cost. Getting a free cast for your stuff each turn with her out is brilliant and great card advantage over time. She's also super cheap here at CSI too! Buy her now! Get her and run her, all up and down, and make that choo choo sound.
#5. Storm-Kiln Artist
Hello happy Treasure making fans! I've got your magecraft fun times here! This time you'll make a nice and fun rampy Treasure for your future or current needs! This is brilliant with cantrips that dig and cost one since you can keep on casting them over and over again. It's also great with other artifacts to make this bigger in the power. Love it and run it!
#4. Familiars
This slate of two-drops reduces your casts by one each! They are named after Sunscape Familiar. The most iconic are the Izzet two-drop that reduces your spells by one each and then also has a nasty size of 2/2, on curve to beat! Don't sleep on just printed two-drop Standard legal 1/1 with haste and prowess to win in the red zone. Then we have a mono-Blue splashable 2/1 with flying too! This slate is better than Treasure maker since they are each spell cast so they can be two or three mana reduced per turn while also attacking, blocking, and adding on curve abilities. Love them!
#3. Token Makers
Next are the token makers that make tokens for free for your casts! The best of these was the first, in mono-Blue, with a 2/2 four-drop body on a legendary dork that makes 2/2 flyer Drakes. Flyers? Nasty! Then the mono-Red two-drop uncommon 2/1 was printed next to make 1/1 grounded dorks. Soon the mono-White prowess 2/2 turned any noncreature (not just instants/sorceries) into 1/1 prowess Monks, better size and results, and pushed this archetype into Jeskai. All three of these are powerful and there are loads more from Commanders to artifact token dorks.
#2. Card Draw
Initially, this archetype lacked spell casts into cards drawn, like Mesa Enchantress for those or Sram, Senior Edificer for his types. It did happen though and way later. You can turn spells or copies with magecraft into cards with the four cost mono-Blue dork above or Jeskai for any non-dork cast, on an enchantment form. Also don't sleep on our highest charting legendary six-drop rough-to-cast uncounterable 5/5 with flying that turns the casting of spells by any player into cards drawn! Nasty! Then you can turn cards drawn into tings.
Guttersnipe and Professor Onyx and Coruscation Mage
#1. Win Cons
Our final spot on today's list is for Win-Cons that were first introduced in the three-drop 2/2 with a Spellslinger trigger to shoot each foe for two damage, so it scales up! Many more have been printed down the eons from ones that untap a tapper that tings each opponent to the Black six-drop magecraft planeswalker that drains two life from each foe. You can also +1 her to swap a life for drawing from the top three of your library and -3 her to force each foe to sacrifice stuff. Don't sleep on the just printed two-drop uncommon 2/2 with offspring two to turn a noncreature spell this time into one ting each, awesome after spawning.
There we go! I hope that you enjoyed my looksee at the best to pick up from all places!
