Top 5 Commanders for Morph/Disguise Decks

Reddit

Hello happy folks! Save for one block in Pre-Modern era and some new cards in the Nostalgia/Callback Time Spiral Block, there was not a lot of morph stuff. Then we came back to it in Khans of Tarkir and then megamorph was added in that block too, as well as manifest. And then not much...but now in Standard right now we've got a better version with ward 2 called disguise cloaking is a better manifest from Murders and we just got manifest dread in Duskmourn.

Two brand-new and better takes on the old stuff, and it seems we are in a new world of Morph/Disguise and other face down stuff. This is a great time to check out the best Commanders for this mechanic!

Honorable Mention

Missy

Missy

Missy! This six-drop 4/5 Grixis colored lady is first! Whenever another nonartifact dork dies, you get it back face down as a tapped 2/2 Cyberman artifact dork. That's one recursion, but it doesn't lose its other types, so you can morph/disguise it. Note this works for your foe's stuff too, but no unmorphing there. Then in your end step you can have them take a bunch of damage or draw a card. Each opponent chooses, and they'll probably choose the card draw side.

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma

This four-drop Elf and Ooze and Wizard 3/4 is next!!! They have a beginning of the combat ability to cloak a card in your hand or toss a +1/+1 counter on all of your colorless stuff, which face down stuff is.

Etrata, Deadly Fugitive and Roshan, Hidden Magister

Etrata, Deadly Fugitive
Roshan, Hidden Magister

Etrata AND Roshan! This Dimir colored duo is next. The three-drop Standard-legal mythic is first with deathtouch to send people elsewhere or not want to block on a 1/4 body. Then all Assassins you control (he's one) will cloak the top card of your foe's library. Note it's worded to read for each one. Then you can spend four mana to reveal it or cast it if a spell for free.

If you are running him run Rohsan too, and drop him the next turn for a 4/4 body that turns all of your dorks into Assassins cloaks and morphs and disguised stuff too! Then the face down stuff has evasion in menace as well as when they are turned up you'll draw and then lose a life too. Nasty good together!

Top Five

#5. Duskana, the Rage Mother

Duskana, the Rage Mother

This five-drop Naya colored 5/5 is next! It has a simple ETB ability to draw a card for each 2/2 base power/toughness you control. Rember that's the size of morphs! Surr, she was built to be a leader for Bears, but drawing a new grip of cards shouldn't be denied in a three-color dork letting you run 60% of the cards we care about. Then they'll all get +3/+3 when they swing too! Card draw and win con combined!

#4. Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods

Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods

This four mana Gruul colored Standard-legal 4/4 (at four spot, you are welcome symmetry fans) on curve is great! Your other stuff gets haste, nice! Then your face down stuff dealing damage will draw you that sweet, sweet card! (Just once per combat though barring first or double strike). Then when they die? Return it face down and then flip them over for a free flip-trigger! Wowzer Bowzer!

#3. Zimone, Mystery Unraveler

Zimone, Mystery Unraveler

This leader of a recent Commander deck is next!!! She's a 3/3 Hill Giant costs in Simic and then has just one landfall ability to manifest dread the first time and then the latter to flip them for no additional mana or resources spent!!! Run ramp here for that free flip or just fetchlands to do it twice too. Might I also suggest Exploration effects and then card draw and Crucible of Worlds with the fetches??

#2. Kaust, Eyes of the Glade

Kaust, Eyes of the Glade

This cheap Bear sized and costed three mana (with hybrid) dork is next! When you attack with a face down dork, you can tap this to turn it up, no mana or anything else needed! Then when they deal damage this turn from a morph/disguised but flipped dork, draw that card!!! From card flow to free flips to an easy to cast and three color dork, I'm sure you can see why Kaust is this high...right? Right!

#1. Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer

Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer

This four-drop Sultai creature is next! Your first morph/disguise spell you cast on each turn is free, barring some tax like Rhystic Study. Yay! Then when your face down stuff ETBs? Draw that card! No breaks there like once per turn or life lost just draw.

I hope you enjoyed this! Do you have a morph/disguise brew? Who is your Commander? Are you inspired to build one yourself? Have an amazing day!
