Hello happy folks! Today I wanted to look at pinpoint removal spells for Blue for Commander and other multiplayer formats! This is a sequel to my recent Top Ten for White Pinpoint Removal Spells, which you can find here.
Now, as a reminder, cards here need to be actual, proper removal: not delaying like bounce or Oblivion Rings or Pacifism. So that means no counterspells or bounce or Control Magic or Imprisoned in the Moon, or Clone to copy.
The Top Blue Pinpoint Removal Spells for Multiplayer Magic
Honorable Mention - Psionic Blast
Hello burn fans, I've got your forgotten burn spell here! It costs three, shoots something for four damage and you'll take two damage back. That's fine in Commander with 40 life starting. You can take out planeswalkers with this, making this the only planeswalker removal spell in Blue as long as they've got 4 or fewer loyalty. Then you can also take out dorks and finish off players. It's great in all sorts of places and you forgot it... right? Right!
#5. Hour of Need
This three-mana uncommon instant will exile one creature and then make them a 4/4 flyer. That's a big and evasive threat, hence it hitting so low on thelist, but you can strive it for two mana and take out a few problem creatures. That's not a bad way to use extra mana at all. Not bad at all. But it does feel a little low impact for that cost. Don't sleep on that mass 2 or 3 to 1 exiling at instant speed though!
#4. Ravenform
This three-mana sorcery exile removal spell is next! You can exile a creature this time too, or an artifact. Then you give them a 1/1 flying Bird, just a chump blocker... but at sorcery speed? That drops it back to #4 on my list even though it exiles and has two possible targets and leaves just a 1/1 dork.
#3. Reality Shift
For two mana you can exile a creatue, yay! Then your foe will manifest... boo hiss, throw the bums out!
Each of the next two removal spells will leave a better dork but manifesting makes this a rough ask since they can flip it over and get something better then you took out. Love and hate it too.
#2. Resculpt
This two-mana instant is next! This time you can exile an artifact too, like Ravenform before, for less mana and then at instant speed! But you'll give your opponent a beefier 4/4 for your trouble. At least it doesn't have evasion... It's the 2nd best pinpoint removal spell in Blue!
#1. Pongify AND Rapid Hybridization
Ever since Pongify, Blue has gotten the ability to destroy and then leave a gift, sort of like transforming them into another dork. Here we have these two uncommons that cost one, are instant speed, and destroy a creature while leaving a 3/3. Due to their one-mana status, they are very strong at shutting down problem creatures.
And... there we go! So, what did you think of my list? I know it's not that deep, sorry, but that's the point. Pinpoint removal isn't Blue's strength. Enjoy!
