At the end of February, things are getting silly. Wizards of the Coast will release Unsanctioned, a new Un-set with a fresh batch of zaniness. They've turned back the clock and cracked open a time rift to the first days of the Tolarian Academy. Out poured a pink tide of bouncing, bounding, boisterous beebles.
Beebles were test subjects in the Tolarian Academy. They're constructs like homunculi but easier to pronounce. Wizards needed to practice spells on elastic creatures that didn't mind getting blasted. These pink notes of delight also served Teferi and other students as prank fodder.
Beebles are always giggling. That's what you'll be doing too when you sleeve up silver-boarded cards for some multiplayer fun. To get maximum value out of B.O.B. (Bevy of Beebles), we will build them an Oathbreaker deck. In this new casual format, you play with a starting life of twenty, a fifty-eight-card deck, and two cards in the command zone: a Planeswalker and their signature spell. As long as your Planeswalker is on the battlefield you may cast their instant or sorcery, each card commander taxed two more for every subsequent casting.
What hilarious signature spell will we combine with our Planeswalker? Let's just say those wee little beebles may be getting bigger.

When we plus our Planeswalker for the first time we'll gain our fifth beeble. Coincidentally, we have exactly five creatures in our deck to cheat onto the battlefield with Mass Polymorph. Now, often you'll need to chump block with a beeble or two to make certain B.O.B. survives. That's fine. Beebles squee in delight when you kick them. And gaining even a pair of creatures off our signature spell will still be wonderful.
We'll discuss a greater variety of creatures we can Polymorph into, but for now we'll focus on hilarity. Also, what is more apt than Tolarian test subjects transforming into Urza's Science Fair Project? And speaking of Urza, Academy Headmaster, I designed a five-color Slivers Oathbreaker deck featuring his head.
We'll end this article with a list of creature keywords for your Modular Monstrosity, ordered by power. The silver-boarders of our big creatures will keep the tone of our deck fun while still giving us the chance to win. Your opponents will enjoy seeing these ridiculous cards in play, or at least that's the plan. Before you begin, ask them if it's fine for you to get silly with silver borders. Technically, they aren't legal in Oathbreaker. Also technically, this is a game, and we're all slowly dying so let's enjoy the finite time we have left with beebles.
Another good creature to play is Fblthp, the Lost. He's amusing in and of himself. Also, you draw two cards when you Polymorph him into play. Our last creature is Peregrine Drake, just to untap our lands to allow us to activate the abilities on Greater Morphling and Urza's Science Fair Project.
Communication is key. Don't be too coy about what your beebles will Polymorph into. We're primed to think a resolved Polymorph spell will result in a Blightsteel Colossus. Reassure your playgroup before you begin that you're just going silver for more laughs, not for B.O.B.'s combo potential.
B.O.B. is something special. Their loyalty tracks the number of beebles in play. So if we start with five and Mass Polymorph them all away, B.O.B. will return to your command zone as a state-based action. Unless, of course, we Polymorph our beeble tokens into more beebles.
Beeble Package:
Feel free to swap out the five creatures in our deck with another package. Now, as a payoff, transforming your board into more beebles isn't going to win many games, but as a punch line it kills. You also have the marginal upside of early bird beebles increasing the loyalty of B.O.B. Sadly, if you Polymorph away all your beebles at once, Quicksilver Gargantuan can't come into play as one.
Bouncing Beebles was printed in Urza's Legacy and one of the few cards in that block that didn't get banned. Since then, Wizards of the Coast has decided squirmy pink test subjects are more suitable to Un-sets. Beeble package or no, our deck is playing with a few other silver cards. I chose ones that are fun and not too disruptive to the flow of a normal game. For instance, I excluded Ambiguity because it might strain patience, even though it can proliferate B.O.B.'s loyalty. I think. Entirely Normal Armchair is a good scarecrow card. Rings a Bell may be a welcome change from Rhystic Study. And for chuckle value I chose this variant of Very Cryptic Command.
I asked people on Twitter for silly Mass Polymorph creature packages. Thank you, Rob Davis for suggesting beebles and MTGColorPie for suggesting clones. A dollop of doppelgangers will match the power level of the table and often lead to wild board states.
Clone Package:
As your foes may well expect, resolving a Mass Polymorph can lead to instant death. Nick Simpson and George Gone both had suggestions for combo packages. You should have a good understanding of your playgroup's sense of humor before you present a deck with illegal cards that will instantly kill them. This would take a longer pre-game conversation, but I wanted to give you the option.

A few final card notes:
- If you draw one of the big boys you can eventually hard cast them. Or you can tuck them back into your deck with Brainstorm or See Beyond.
- Callous Dismissal and Lazotep Plating have multiple functions, including giving you more token creatures to Polymorph.
- While Octopus Umbra isn't silver bordered, it's silly enough to include. Imagine a tiny beeble chortling in the middle of a gigantic mass of ethereal tentacles.
- We gain extra value off proliferate, as it buffs B.O.B. Cast Contentious Plan and say, "Beeble me, bro!"
Again, I'm not certain who wants to make their beebles casual deck into a tuned killing machine, but in case you're out there I included a few more expensive cards for you to add.
Pimp Your Beebles:
- 1 Mana Drain
- 1 Show and Tell
- 1 Ancient Tomb
- 1 Coat of Arms
- 1 Scroll Rack
- 1 Palinchron
- 1 Sapphire Medallion
