This is a deck that’s built on synergy rather than raw power — it’s got to be when you’re building on a relatively tight budget. The idea here is that you can combine the likes of Doomed Dissenter and Sacred Cat with Yahenni, Undying Partisan and Hidden Stockpile to ensure you’ve got a steady stream of stuff to sacrifice. When you start throwing Zulaport Cutthroat into the mix, you’ve got a real engine of chump blockers, lifegain, and non-combat damage going.
So that’s all great, but how do you generate enough resources to slog through Cryptbreakers and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger? The answer is Anointed Procession. This card lets your Sacred Cats and Hidden Stockpiles get out of control relatively quickly, giving you plenty of fuel to go much wider than anything your opponent is doing. You can be a little slow to get going, but Sram's Expertise gives you a great way of catching up on the board while also playing well with Anointed Procession later in the game.
All of this leads into powerful things like Westvale Abbey to take over the game once you’ve stalled out the ground. There are a myriad of decks that have relatively few ways to interact with, much less beat, Ormendahl, and this deck is better than most at getting up to the requisite number of creatures without being too far behind on the board.
There’s lots of opportunities to upgrade things here depending on your budgetary constraints. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar would certainly be a great inclusion, and there are plenty of other Planeswalkers and rare removal spells to consider. That said, this is a great starting point if you’re looking to get into Standard without breaking your budget.
