What are the Top Three Cards from One Piece Memorial Collection?

Reddit

Welcome aboard fellow seafarers! We've done it before but it's time to do it again; lower ye sails, have a seat and perhaps pull out your favorite drink of choice as we take yet another journey through One Piece TCG's history and go over the Top 3 cards from OPTCG's first Extra Booster set, Memorial Collection!

Now, Extra Booster was a very small set with 80 cards total and 3 exclusive leaders. This set provided cards that were intended to promote the use of leaders that weren't seeing a whole lot of play at the table top arena. What was common knowledge around this set prior to its release date of May 3rd 2024 was that there were some power pieces within this small set, but none of us really knew how little supply would have been printed for this set. Extra Booster was the first extra set to be printed outside of the normal 4 sets a year schedule within the year of 2024, which in and of itself is exciting, but its supply vanished suddenly. As a result, you'll find prices on Extra Booster singles to be a bit higher than others.

Before we go into our Top 3, I would like to point out some honorable mentions that didn't make the cut. Both Shirahoshi and Edward Weevil make excellent additions to the card pool. Edward Weevil is a 6000 power body with an On Play ability which allows you to draw a card, and Shirahoshi is a 2 cost 0 power blocker with the ability "When this Character is K.O.'d by your opponent's effect, add up to 1 card from the top of your deck to the top of your Life cards." making Shirahoshi an absolute menace when it comes to facing against Black decks or any other decks that run a ton of character removal.

Without any further interruptions or speculations, lets get started on our Top 3! Starting off our list is the loyal-to-the-end Mr.2 Bon Kurei. Mr.2 is a unique piece within purple decks that doesn't seem impressive based on stats alone. Mr.2 is a 4 cost 1000 power with a +1000 counter and the ability of "[On Play] Add up to 1 DON!! card from your DON!! deck and set it as active." and "[When Attacking] Select up to 1 of your opponent's Characters. This Character's base power becomes the same as the selected Character's power during this turn." Your opponent has a 12000 power character? What do you know, so do you! Mr.2 has proven himself to be a power piece in decks such as Red/Purple Luffy, Foxy, or really any deck that dips into Purple. He gives you an extra DON!! on play and proves to be a versatile attacker, but he doesn't do much if your opponent doesn't play many characters. If your opponent plays few to no characters, Mr.2 may be better off pitched as a +1000 counter.

Moving on to Number 2, we have none other than one of the rising stars himself, Cavendish!

Leader Bonney has made her rounds and proven to be one of the most controlling Green decks in the game. Green has previously been known for playing midrange to large characters, resting down your opponents board, and getting rid of their threats by swinging into them. Bonney makes your opponents think about which characters to swing into and which characters might be rested once you swing in with your attacks. Cavendish makes for an excellent addition to this leader's deck with a cost of 5 DON!! And 6000 power and an ability that trigger both On Play and When Attacking that reads " If your Leader has the {Supernovas} type and you have no other [Cavendish] Characters, set up to 2 of your DON!! cards as active." Bonney Leader really only needs one DON!! to activate her ability, but a second DON!! never hurt anyone... except your opponents! It's also worth noting that Cavendish is not limited to just Bonney; Cavendish works within Red/Green Luffy leader, Red/Green Law and Green Kid.

Moving on to the number one spot on our list, we've got the Soul King himself, Brook.

Brook is a 3 cost 4000 power character with an On Play/When attacking ability of "Give up to 1 of your opponent's Characters -1 cost during this turn. Then, K.O. up to 1 of your opponent's Characters with a cost of 0." Brook isn't leader locked and works in ANY deck touching Black. Brook only need one DON!! attached to him to actually hit on opponent's life and even then if you've gotten your opponent's characters to one, or even zero? (It'll get to zero on swing) you can remove the threat and potentially hit for life. That's what we call a win-win. Brook has seen tons of play in decks such as Gecko Moria, Smoker and of course Set 7 Rob Lucci.

But what did you think of this list? Do you think there are cards I might've missed for my Top 3? Will any of these cards make it into your decks?
