The new Lorcana set is here and with it comes powerful new cards that will impact our current metagame! My article will be focused on one of the six colors in Lorcana - Amethyst. This new set, Azurite Sea, features quite a few cards that have the ability to truly impact the game! Amethyst is a staple in the meta with Ruby/Amethyst and Emerald/Amethyst decks being contenders and leaders. While Amethyst is an awesome color type featuring some of the best cards in the game - I do think it happens to be the weakest color in Azurite Sea. However, lets take a closer look and see what cards could impact our metagame!

This is an interesting card. Discard mechanics in the game of Lorcana have been hand driven so far. With Azurite Sea, we see some cards discarding from the top of the opponent's deck. This does two things that some people aren't going to be happy with. One, these new discard mechanics scream alternative win condition in the form of decking your opponent out. Two, this helps current discard decks control what your opponent is or isn't going to dop deck. While discard decks can be fun to play, they are rarely fun to play against. And this new form of discard might not be a fan favorite. However, this card being inkable and singable makes it easy for a discard deck to play.
Did someone say discard? This card can be established as early as turn one and discarding your opponent's cards as soon as the next turn. Much like A Very Merry Unbirthday, this is from the top of the deck. However, this card allows you to choose the player, then you look at the top card and you can either keep it there or discard. In the future, there might be more cards that allow you to get cards from your discard pile. Mad Hatter could allow you to fill up your discard pile fast and help with those targets. In the meantime, it will be very good at controlling what your opponent is or isn't drawing. I'm a big fan of cards that have to be dealt with, and this falls into that category.
I do not necessarily think this is the best purple card this set. However, I think Emerald Diablo is one of the best cards in the game. And I think this card would be the best shift target for that Diablo. That alone makes this card playable in any Emerald/Amethyst Deck. Funny enough, this card can actually sing A Very Merry Unbirthday, discarding two cards from your opponent's deck and when it's banished it just gives you a card. That exchange could be pretty advantageous.
This is a card you'd have to build your whole deck around. I think the idea of dumping your hand as much as possible every turn and replacing it the next is a cool premise. This deck could really cycle. Especially if it was paired with Sapphire with cards like Pawpsicle, that would net 2 cards. You would also have a lot of ink to be able to play out a bunch of cards every turn. Ultimately, I would think that would be the best color combination for our friend Genie here. I really like that he's shiftable as early as 5 ink, and that he's pretty well stated and quests for 2. I think this is a pretty cool card that could make for a really fun deck.
This card is very cool. Its stats are okay at best for being an un-inkable 6 drop character, but it's effect really makes your opponent question their sequencing. Hades would need to be removed before any other character due to the wording of the card. However, what if Hades isn't the biggest threat you have on board? Say you have a Sapphire Mufasa on board, already and then play Hades. Your opponent would want to remove the Mufasa as soon as possible, but now when they do you get 2 free lore. I think anyway you can gain passive lore in this game is a good thing to be doing. What I mean by that is gaining lore without having to quest. In this instance, you're penalizing your opponent for removing any of your board. We will see how played this card is but off text alone I think this is probably the best Amethyst card this set.
Well, that is a wrap for Amethyst in Azurite Sea! This set looks to be a promising one and here at Cool Stuff, the writers are breaking down every color of this set. So be sure to read them all to get a grasp on what cards look to be impactful and what cards you should be chasing after. Good luck to everyone on their pulls!
