A Look at Union Arena's Sets for 2024

Reddit

What's up friends! In my last article I wrote about Bandai's new trading card game, Union Arena! That article was focused on why I believe it's the perfect "2nd" card game for someone to pick up and take a break from their main card game, as well as going over some of the basics. That article can be found here if you missed it. Today, I'm focusing on what sets you can buy right now, and why everyone should be looking forward to the other two sets that are releasing this year!

Right now, card players interested in Union Arena can buy two different sets. You can buy Bleach: Thousand Year War or the Hunter X Hunter set! Or maybe you're like me and you will buy both. Both sets offer a variety of meta decks, which so far has been one of my favorite aspects of the game. While of course some decks are better than others, it really feels like that you always have a chance or are a card or two away from winning no matter what you are playing. This makes it to where you can really build around some of your favorite characters from their respective anime and have fun along the way! Both sets offer 3 different colors that you can build around. Bleach has Purple, Yellow, and Green - Hunter X Hunter has Green, Purple, and Blue. The most meta defining decks belong to Purple Bleach and Green Hunter X Hunter. Of course, that will all change this month when the new set is released - Jujitsu Kaisen!

Jujitsu Kaisen will be a huge set thanks to the popularity of the anime, and the manga just having ended. While we do not know the exact set list yet or how it might differ from the Japanese release, you can rest assured that your favorite characters from the series like Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori! Being able to see your favorite characters on a card and being able to use them in gameplay is something that really is exciting. This set really defined the metagame in the East, and I expect it to immediately impact our meta! Even if the set release doesn't contain certain cards that dominated the Eastern Meta - you can guarantee that people will try to cook up a lot of different decks just from the popularity of this set. What's really interesting is we get this set before our first special events, the Rare Card battles that start in December! Speaking of December, which is when we get our next set that will shake things up - Code Geass!

Code Geass will be releasing in the second week of December and will be our last set for this year of Union Arena! Code Geass will immediately affect the meta as the Rare Card battles will already be underway, giving players even more decks to choose from. In the eastern meta, Code Geass and Jujitsu Kaisen, rose to the top of the meta joining the infamous Purple Bleach decks. I expect the meta to be a healthy dose of Blue Jujitsu Kaisen, a mix of colors from Code Geass, Purple and Green Bleach, and lastly Kurapika Hunter X Hunter decks. This will be the meta make up for our first true event series that will close out the year!

I'm super hopeful that with the hype surrounding the releases of both Jujitsu Kaisen and Code Geass that a lot more card game players find this fun game! I've been enjoying the local scene a lot and can't wait to see how these new sets shake up the meta.
