Wait Jim, did you just go there?
Yes, yes I did.
Not clickbait - Freyalise, Skyshroud Partisan is definitely the best planeswalker printed since Oko, Thief of Crowns.
Of course, this is a bit in part to the fact that Wizards of the Coast has toned down planeswalkers since War of the Spark, but also just because Freyalise packs such an unbelievable amount of power into her sturdy 3 mana frame. Like Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord before her, Freyalise is at a ridiculous power level, but is balanced out by only being good in one tribal deck.
What Freyalise does for Elves in Historic is shore up its weakest points in the best ways possible. Elves in Historic was a decent best-of-one deck because you could cheese people out by flooding the board quickly, but had a really difficult time beating large amounts of removal or mass removal. Freyalise provides the sticky threat with card advantage and game ending potential for a measly three mana that curves perfectly on turn two off of Llanowar Elves.
With this influx of power and resilience, Elves immediately becomes a contender in Historic.

We just missed the clean sweep, but Freyalise was everything we could have asked for and more, allowing us to beat multiple control and removal heavy decks that were in our path.
The Black splash for sideboard cards was great, as was Harald, King of Skemfar and Skyshroud Lookout for a bit of extra card draw and grind when needed. Collected Company is one of the best cards in Historic, but with Freyalise providing the extra engine the deck is now far less reliant on it.
With a fast clock, quick threats, a great sideboard, and two extremely powerful engines, Elves is now a force to be reckoned with in Historic!
