YuGiOh! New Archetype from Supreme Darkness: Argostars

Reddit

The first Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG set of 2025, Supreme Darkness, boasts 101 new cards! With plenty of support for existing archetypes like HERO, Primite, Speedroid, Sinful Spoils, and more, they still managed to squeeze in a couple brand new archetypes. The one I will dive into now is Argostars.

Argostars currently consists of three continuous trap cards, a field spell, and an effect monster - with additional support already planned.

The way this deck works is by playing the continuous trap cards (which can be special summoned as effect monsters) for their trap effect, ranging from increasing ATK and DEF to providing destruction protection for your monsters. Each one can be special summoned in a different way from the Spell & Trap Zone which then trigger other effects like returning an opponent's card to their hand, searching other Argostars cards from your deck, and gaining life points.

Home Stadium acts as a way to retrieve one of your Argostars cards that is banished or in the Graveyard. It also enables burn damage every time you special summon one of the trap-monsters. The final effect can negate your opponent's cards one by one every time one of the trap-monsters effects activate while in the Monster Zone - just for the rest of that turn; however, you'll find that they each also have a quick effect so you might have an opportunity to negate effects on either turn.

Glorious Adra is the sole effect monster that is not also a trap card. It can be banished from the hand on your opponent's turn if you have one of the Argostars traps on the field, which then reduces one monster's ATK to 0 for the turn - this also allows the field spell to use its last effect since it requires an Argostars card to be banished. On your turn, instead of banishing it, you can normal summon it which prevents counters to your continuous trap effects for the turn. With that out of the way, then you can banish it and get two Argostars traps face-up on the field from your Deck or hand.

Something important to note about these cards is that only Glorious Adra has a hard once-per-turn effect - meaning its last effect can only be used once-per-turn even if you have another copy of it on the field. The rest are soft once-per-turn effects - meaning you can use their effects once-per-turn for each copy you have.

Building Out the Deck

There are a few things to keep in mind when building tis deck. After you add these cards, standard staples, and maybe a few favorites - that's Dimension Wall for me - you want to add some cards that can help protect your Spell & Trap Zone, as well as cards that will play off the trap effects.

Lightning Tydeu requires discarding a card to special summon it. Sprinkling in a Danger! Bigfoot or Danger! Thunderbird can keep you from discarding something more important and doubles as a way to destroy some of your opponent's cards as a side-effect.

Each of the three trap-monsters are Level 4 Light Warriors. This opens up the extra deck to add some Rank 4 XYZ monsters or Link monsters. Because each of their effects apply to your Warrior monsters - not just Argostars - you might want to consider Warrior monsters for support. Some simple additions could be:

  • Comics Hero King Arthur which can protect itself from being destroyed by battle, increasing its ATK and dealing burn damage
  • Blade Armor Ninja which can use its effect to make two attacks during the battle phase

Along this same line, some of Home Stadium's effects are not limited to only Argostars either. Adding other Continuous Traps that can be summoned as monsters can also trigger the effects - cards like Krystal Avatar, Statue of Anguish Pattern, Tiki Curse, or Tiki Soul would work well and have their own effects to benefit the deck especially when paired with an army of other trap-monsters.

You cannot forget classic Warrior support cards like Reinforcement of the Army and The Warrior Returning Alive!

There are also some other archetypes you could combine if you are not looking to make an entirely new deck - decks like Exosister, Ninja, and HERO (which also has some support of its own in this set). Argostars can provide some protection and boosts even if they are only used as Traps, but that would be a waste. Special summon them and use them as material!

While there are only a handful of cards so far for this new archetype, it is flexible enough to sync with more established decks. With more support on the way - at least two cards planned - it is gearing up to be formidable play-style that has not often been explored.
