What is Innistrad Remastered?

Innistrad Remastered is the newest set released to Magic: The Gathering. While the previews of the upcoming Aetherdrift may have slightly overshadowed this release, Innistrad Remastered is a relatively unique set. What makes this set different from others and why should you care? Let's take a look at what Innistrad Remastered is.

Innistrad Remastered is effectively what we call a "reprint set". This means this set comprises previous cards printed over a thematic series of sets. This is a set without any new cards but will feature new art, card treatments, and a few thematic cards that never made the original releases. Innistrad Remastered isn't a Standard-legal set, but it does feature some amazing cards you can toss into your Modern or Commander decks.

Innistrad Remastered is a macabre collection of greatest hits.

There are a lot of fantastic cards in Innistrad Remastered. This set is collecting the best of the best cards from the Innistrad sets. This means the set includes absolute powerhouse cards like Edgar Markov, Emrakul, The Promised End, and The Meathook Massacre. There are also some reprints of hard-to-get cards, like Snapcaster Mage and Laboratory Maniac.

Innistrad Remastered is a perfect set for people, like myself, who missed one (or all) of the original Innistrad sets and only have cards from singles I've purchased. A great example of this is the appearance of Edgar Markov. Formerly a card you could only get in an old Commander pre-con, you can now get the card in 3 different styles.

Innistrad Remastered offers new looks on old cards.

In Innistrad Remastered classic cards have some great new looks. The movie poster treatments are available on 11 cards which are:

You may notice there are 10 because Edgar Markov is only available in this treatment in a serialized version. That means there are only 500 out there!

There are also showcase frames, which feature brand-new special art and borders for six cards. Those cards are:

You may notice that's the third appearance of the highly sought-after Edgar Markov. Innistrad Remastered is a great opportunity to add him to your collection finally.

There are also a few cards that are only available in retro frames. Retro frames use older art with the original Magic: The Gathering frames. While many cards in Innistrad Remastered use the retro frame, a few cards are only available in this treatment. The most notable card that has this treatment is Snapcaster Mage.

Finally, borderless art treatments for Innistrad Remastered are the final special treatment. These 25 cards feature brand-new art without borders that are striking. The cards with this treatment are:

You may have already noticed, but Innistrad Remastered reprinted some essential staple cards in the borderless art treatment. I want that Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord card.

Innistrad Remastered is available in both play boosters and collector boosters. There will not be any special bundles for this set, and you cannot get every card out of play boosters. It's important to know which booster is the right one for you.

If you buy Innistrad Remastered for any poster frame treatments, you will want to buy the collector boosters. This is the only product to feature those cards and give you a shot at the coveted serialized Edgar Markov. These packs are limited and highly sought after, so don't wait!

If you are looking at other treatments, you can get them out of the play booster packs. While your odds of getting the higher-end cards will be more likely, play boosters offer the opportunity to get those cards at a lower cost. Innistrad Remastered has some fantastic cards, so it won't hurt to bolster your collection.

Innistrad Remastered offers a ton of value overall.

If you want to pump up your Commander decks, add some flair to that Modern deck, or even look to play in some Limited games, Innistrad Remastered is kicking off 2025 in an awesome way. It may not be a set for everyone, and isn't one of the core sets this year, but getting that remastered treatment is worth waiting for one of Magic: The Gathering's more beloved planes!

If you plan to jump into Innistrad Remastered, may luck be in your favor!
