Budget Bombs from Bloomburrow

Reddit

Hello, everyone! I'm Levi from The Thought Vessel Show, and today we're back with some more budget bombs. This time, we're diving into the Redwallesque Magic set, Bloomburrow. As usual, to qualify as a budget bomb, a card must be printed for the very first time in Bloomburrow and priced under $1.00 here on CoolStuffInc. We're not ranking these cards in any particular order - today, we celebrate great cards at great prices. Let's begin!

1. Parting Gust

Parting Gust

This is a fantastic addition for blink decks as a flicker-style card that doubles as spot removal in a pinch. Gifting a 1/1 creature is a small price to pay for a removal spell, especially considering Commander players regularly give out 3/3s with cards like Rapid Hybridization, Beast Within, and Pongify. In some cases, that 1/1 can even be used politically to provide an opponent with a blocker. A non-foil version of this card is priced at $0.49.

2. Baylen, the Haymaker

Baylen, the Haymaker

This might be one of the strongest commanders to emerge in 2024. A borderline cEDH commander at its peak, Baylen can leverage excess creatures to generate ramp, card draw, or even +1/+1 counters. It's an incredibly explosive Naya Commander or a great inclusion in the 99 of a token deck. Whether in combo or aggro strategies, Baylen can do it all for just $0.99.

3. Builder's Talent

Builder's Talent

I'm surprised this card has flown under the radar. Sure, Level One creating a 0/4 wall isn't the best effect, but Level Two turning permanents like treasure tokens into +1/+1 counters is intriguing. Level Three's recursion is just an added bonus. For three mana to reach Level Two and a price of only $0.29, this card has plenty of potential.

4. Coiling Rebirth

Coiling Rebirth

This card is less about raw power and more about style. Reanimating a creature and creating a copy of it sounds incredible. Imagine using this effect on Gray Merchant of Asphodel. The life drain would be massive! As far as style points go, this one takes the cake at $0.49. The alternate art version is currently $0.75. Give it a try!

5. Season of the Bold

Season of the Bold

I'm a big fan of these paw-modal cards that let you pick from several options based on the situation. You could create a bunch of treasures for a future turn or use impulse draw for card advantage. Depending on your situation, the three-paw effect could also cause significant damage. Copying this spell is particularly interesting. Surprisingly, unlike the other Season cards, Season of the Bold is only $0.99.

6. Clifftop Lookout

Clifftop Lookout

In a world of Wood Elves, this card shines in decks running a high volume of high-value lands like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or Gaea's Cradle. While it doesn't tutor for lands, in a graveyard, blink, or similar deck that can repeatedly use its abilities, this could be a high-impact card that goes unnoticed. It's also tied for the cheapest card on this list at $0.29.

7. Kastral, the Windcrested

Kastral, the Windcrested

Birds got a significant upgrade with Kastral, the Wind Crested. Previously, bird decks leaned on flying synergies or fit into a Derevi package. It's great to see this creature type getting a boost, whether Kastral is the commander or part of the 99. As a niche card, it's priced at only $0.49, but it's remarkably strong.

8. Consumed by Greed

Consumed by Greed

Edict effects are potent in casual Commander, where decks often vary in their ability to protect commanders with tools like Swiftfoot Boots or Asceticism. Forcing an opponent to sacrifice their best creature is often enough to remove something valuable. Politically gifting that sacrificed card while bringing back a creature from your graveyard offers a ton of value for just $0.29.

9. Hunter's Talent

Hunter's Talent

At Level One, you get Green's style of creature removal. Level Two grants trample and a slight power bump, while Level Three provides a steady card draw engine. Winning with Green often requires all three of these abilities, and this $0.29 uncommon delivers them all. This set rocks!

10. Finneas, Ace Archer

Finneas, Ace Archer

Finally, we have our arrow-slinging bunny, Finneas, Ace Archer. While narrow in scope, Finneas excels in Rabbit or token decks, where those +1/+1 counters quickly stack up. It doesn't take long to get the card draw engine online, and for just two mana, this card can make a lasting impact over the course of a game. It's a steal at $0.49.

And there you have it! This card was a great flavorful set from 2024 and provided a lot of interesting cards and mechanics. For a lot of people, this was the top set of 2024. While finding budget bombs from this set was a bit more challenging - many of these cards are holding value - there are still plenty of hidden gems to explore at great prices. I recommend looking at the rest of the set, there are definitely more gems to find. Until next time, happy gaming!
