What Are the Best Warriors for Commander?

Reddit

Hello everyone! It's Levi, and we're back with another top 10 ranking. This time, we're looking at one of the strongest creature types in all of Magic: Warriors. Unlike other creature types one might use for a kindred deck, Warriors excel both individually and collectively. For today's ranking, I'm focusing on their impact on the board, with bonus points if the commander doesn't specifically need to be with its own creature type or require a specific board state. Before we get started, here are our honorable mentions:

Combat Celebrant - Looking to add additional combat steps to your deck? How about an infinite combo? Look no further than Combat Celebrant. An extra combat step for three mana is a fantastic rate, especially if you can give it haste. This card can do it all.

Neheb, the Eternal - Although it has seen a dip in popularity, now being the 9th most played Mono-Red commander on EDHREC, Neheb is one of the best burn/aggro commanders you can have. Turning damage into additional mana, this deck can easily take out a whole table with a Comet Storm.

Eladamri, Korvecdal - A new warrior approaches. Debuting in Modern Horizons 3, Eladamri is a fantastic addition to your creature decks. Being able to see your next card draw every turn is a great asset, but being able to cheat out creatures from the top of your library or from your hand, bypassing counterspells, is incredible. I'm excited to play this card more and explore all of its potential.

Number Ten

Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist

When it comes to aggro decks, few warriors help more than Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist. Supporting both attacking and defending, when Mirri becomes tapped and attacking, your opponents can only block with one creature, putting them in a bind. Additionally, if you can give your creatures menace, you can swing for victory. In the event your opponents are still alive, the crackback attack is significantly lessened since your opponents can only attack with one creature. Did I mention this card only costs three mana? Mirri is great!

Number Nine

Krenko, Mob Boss

Krenko cranks! I often forget this goblin-making machine is a warrior, but yes, he is. Krenko might be the most efficient token-making machine in Magic, doubling your goblin army every turn, not to mention any methods you might have for untapping him. Krenko is an iconic commander and legendary creature, but he provides less support away from goblin tribal decks, which lands him at number nine.

Number Eight

Marisi, Breaker of the Coil

Casting a silence on your opponents during combat is incredibly useful. Marisi being a 5/4 for four mana is a solid rate, and with a big enough board, you can connect with every opponent, goading all their creatures.

Number Seven

Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

In a world of slinging instant and sorcery spells, one two-headed ogre will stand up and say, "Take six damage!" Joking aside, six damage per instant or sorcery spell is a massive taxing effect, which can quickly turn lethal for your opponents if you can give Ruric Thar lifelink or infect. We haven't seen a damage taxing effect this potent since its release. Unfortunately, it also affects you, making deck-building a bit more challenging. All things considered, Ruric Thar arrives at number seven.

Number Six

Moraug, Fury of Akoum

Speaking of damage, next up is the king of extra combat steps himself, Moraug! A finisher in his own right, Moraug turns every land drop into another combat step. If that wasn't enough, all creatures get +1 attack for each time they've attacked this turn. And it stacks! Super powerful in the right deck.

Number Five

Chatterfang, Squirrel General

Ah yes, the nutty combo king himself, Chatterfang. Every token you make will be accompanied by a 1/1 squirrel token. At its floor, you're building an army of squirrels that can attack or be used for removal against troublesome creatures. At its ceiling, this card combos with a slew of other cards to bring games to a swift close.

Number Four

Winota, Joiner of Forces

If cheating creatures into play is more your speed, we have Winota at number four. A cEDH commander in her own right, Winota effectively brings humans off the top six cards of your library right into play. Normally used as a stax commander, this card also has strong applications in warrior builds since the warrior creature type is used across nearly every species Magic has to offer! Winota is a sweet card.

Number Three

Marneus Calgar

From the Warhammer Commander decks, this warrior has an excellent knack for turning tokens of any kind into card advantage. Don't have any token makers? Marneus Calgar also makes his own tokens! This card has everything you need.

Number Two

Professional Face-Breaker

Card advantage is a must in Commander. Professional Face-Breaker offers both card advantage and treasure tokens on a three-mana creature that is not legendary. Though it requires connecting in combat, the treasure tokens produced are of great value, and most decks with this card are designed to attack anyway.

Number One

Najeela, the Blade-Blossom

No doubts about it, Najeela is ELITE. She's a cEDH commander. Every warrior attacking creates a 1/1 warrior token, and for wubrg, your entire army gets trample, lifelink, and haste with an additional combat step to use them. This creature can go infinite easily and has access to all five colors! If I'm building a warrior tribal deck, I'm looking no further than Najeela. That's why she is number one on our list.

And that is your top ten warriors in Commander. Thank you for reading. Until next time!
