White Decks for Lost Caverns Standard

Reddit

Hello everyone. The next Magic release, Murders at Karlov Manor, is still a little over a month away, so my plans for the next few weeks are to bring you some fun two-colored decks that you can use in your local tournaments or against your friends. I plan on focusing on one color each week, and I'll be starting with White. Let's get started by taking a look at our first deck.

Azorius Control

The first deck I have for you is a control deck in Blue and White. Let's take a look at some of the key cards from this deck.

Jace, the Perfected Mind
As a control deck, this deck includes multiple ways to deal with your opponent's creatures so your life total can remain sufficiently high. Sunfall, Farewell, and Vanquish the Horde can all be used to remove multiple creatures at once from the battlefield. There are also numerous spells, such as Elspeth's Smite and Get Lost, that are more targeted removal. Another means of creature removal is the use of the -2 loyalty ability of The Wandering Emperor, which helps provide you with two points of additional life.

The Wandering Emperor isn't the only planeswalker in this deck that can help you remain alive. You can use the +1 loyalty ability of Jace, the Perfected Mind to lower the power of one of your opponent's creatures until your next turn. This will make it so that creature is less able to attack you or block any of your creatures. You can also use the -X loyalty ability to finish off your opponent's deck if they have few enough cards remaining there.

Orzhov Lifegain

Next, I have an Orzhov deck that is capable of gaining a lot of extra life. Let's take a look at the deck.

Preacher of the Schism
Preacher of the Schism offers you a different benefit when it attacks, depending on whether you have more life than your opponent or less. If you have less life, you'll create a 1/1 Vampire creature token that has lifelink. If you have more life than your opponent, when you attack, you'll draw a card and lose a point of life. If you happen to have the same life total as your opponent when you attack, you'll get both benefits.

By gaining additional life throughout the game, you can grant multiple bonuses to your Voice of the Blessed. Every time you gain life, Voice of the Blessed will gain a +1/+1 counter. As Voice of the Blessed gains more and more +1/+1 counters, it will gain additional boons, including flying, vengeance, and indestructibility. These benefits will make Voice of the Blessed a creature that must be removed as quickly as possible.

Boros Tokens

Nex, I have an aggressive Boros deck that wants to get a lot of creatures and artifacts onto the battlefield. Let's check it out.

Warden of the Inner Sky
One of the main creatures in this deck is Warden of the Inner Sky. While this Human Soldier is on the battlefield, you can tap three untapped artifacts and/or creatures you control to place a +1/+1 counter on Warden of the Inner Sky. There are a lot of ways to create token artifacts and creatures in this deck, including Voldaren Epicure and Resolute Reinforcements.

All of those tokens also serve another purpose. By having a lot of nonland permanents in play, you'll increase the stats of Regal Bunnicorn. By having full playsets of both Regal Bunnicorn and Warden of the Inner Sky in this deck, you're very likely to have at least a couple of these big attackers in play at the same time, helping you to push through some massive amounts of damage.

Selesnya Conduit Wrenn Control

The final deck I have for you this week is another control deck. This one uses the power of self-milling to put some high mana value cards into play for free. Let's take a look at the deck.

Wrenn and Realmbreaker
Wrenn and Realmbreaker allows you to tap your lands for any color of mana while they are on the battlefield. This can be useful after you activate Wrenn's -2 loyalty ability, helping you cast one of the cards you mill without worrying about the color of mana you can produce. While you'll generally want to put a card you can cast into your hand, the cards that go to your graveyard aren't necessarily gone forever.

Conduit of Worlds allows you to play land cards from your graveyard. You can also tap Conduit of Worlds to cast any nonland permanent card from your graveyard, but only on your turn, and only if you haven't cast any other spells that turn. If you do this, you're unable to cast any other spells for the rest of your turn. While this might sound like a harsh drawback, there are a number of terrific nonland permanent cards you can cast that are very powerful, and there are a number of instant spells that you are still able to cast on your opponent's turn.

Wrapping Up

Decks that feature White mana usually feature ways of gaining life and creating small creature tokens. As you can see from these decks, while that is generally true, by adding a secondary color, your options become nearly infinite in what you can do.

What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
