Last Chance Standard Decks Before Wilds of Eldraine

Reddit

Hello everyone. With preview season happening right now, I'm super excited to start playing with some of the new cards from Wilds of Eldraine. However, we're still a couple of weeks away from the release, and there are still Standard events happening. I've got a few more decks this week that you can play until the next release happens. Let's get started by taking a look at the first deck.

Mono-White Mill

We'll begin by taking a look at a Mono-White deck that wins games by manipulating its opponent's graveyard. Let's take a look at the deck.

Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree
Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree can be used to make your opponent mill three cards. You'll then be able to put any land card in your opponent's graveyard into play tapped and under your control. With a bit of luck, you might be able to deny access to one of the colors in your opponent's deck. Even if luck isn't on your side, this can help you quickly outpace your opponent on mana production. Even if you aren't able to mill any lands with Realmbreaker, getting cards in your opponent's graveyard is important for a couple of cards in particular.

One card is Unlicensed Hearse. While you have Unlicensed Hearse on the battlefield, you can tap it to exile up to two cards from any player's graveyard. Most of the time, you'll want to exile cards from your opponent's graveyard, but you can exile cards from your own in order to make Unlicensed Hearse bigger. By exiling cards this way, you can remove creatures like Tenacious Underdog that have blitz abilities and spells like Rite of Oblivion that have flashback.

The other card that works best while your opponent's graveyard has plenty of creatures in it is Portal to Phyrexia. While this artifact is on the battlefield, at the beginning of your upkeep, you'll be able to put a creature from any player's graveyard into play under your control. While it's entirely possible that you can return some of the creatures your opponent sacrificed when Portal to Phyrexia came into play, they could have had creature tokens that were sacrificed. That's why it can be helpful to keep milling their library with the help of Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree.

Mardu Superfriends

The next deck I have for you features a team of superpowered planeswalkers intent on helping you achieve victory over your opponent. Let's check it out.

The Wandering Emperor
Over 20% of this deck consists of planeswalker cards. It includes three copies of arguably the best planeswalker currently in Standard, The Wandering Emperor. By having flash, you can play The Wandering Emperor after your opponent has declared attackers but before damage has been dealt. This provides you a huge advantage during combat, as you're able to remove your opponent's best attacker from the game with ease.

However, The Wandering Emperor isn't the only planeswalker in this deck that helps with creature removal. Liliana of the Veil forces your opponent to sacrifice a creature (assuming you target them instead of yourself). Vraska, Betrayal's Sting turns a creature into a Treasure token. Even Kaya, Intangible Slayer gets in on the fun with her -3 loyalty ability which exiles a creature or enchantment, creating a token copy of it for you in the process.

However, none of these planeswalkers can deal with a battlefield full of threats like The Eternal Wanderer can. By activating her -4 loyalty ability, you'll force your opponent to sacrifice all of their creatures in play except for one of your choosing. You'll have to do the same yourself, but with this deck you usually don't have a lot of creatures in play. When using this ability is timed properly, you can totally wreck your opponent's plan of action and cause them to consider conceding.

Abzan Enchantments

The final deck I have for you this week features an enchantment theme, which is something we're sure to see more of when Wilds of Eldraine releases. Let's take a look at the deck.

Calix, Guided by Fate
Calix, Guided by Fate encourages you to play a lot of enchantments. With him on the battlefield, whenever you successfully cast an enchantment, you'll get a +1/+1 counter to put on any creature you control. You'll also get a +1/+1 counter when he comes into play. That can let your creatures become very large as the game goes on.

Calix has a second ability that happens when he or an enchanted creature you control deals combat damage to a player. This ability lets you create a token copy of a nonlegendary enchantment you control. One of the best enchantments you can copy is Audacity, as it provides a power bonus plus trample to a creature. Trample can help you ensure that combat damage can get dealt to your opponent, even if they have blocking creatures.

Another great choice for an enchantment to create a copy of is Hallowed Haunting. While Hallowed Haunting is on the battlefield, if you have seven or more enchantments in play, all of your creatures will gain both flying and vigilance. You'll also be able to create Spirit Cleric creature tokens when you cast an enchantment spell. These tokens become more formidable for each Spirit you have in play.

Wrapping Up

While preview season is always an exciting time, those new cards aren't able to be played just yet. If you're looking for a deck to use for Friday Night Magic or just for fun against your friends, you might want to try one of these decks out.

What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
