Exploring Red Decks for Bloomburrow Standard

Reddit

Hello everyone. For the past few weeks, I've been looking at decks that are focused around a specific color. We've looked at White, Blue, and Black decks so far, and this week, it's time to take a look at some decks featuring Red mana. Let's get started with our first deck.

Mono-Red Aggro

As always, we'll start off by looking at a mono-colored deck featuring the color of the week. In this case, that's a Mono-Red deck that features a lot of aggression. Let's take a look at the deck.

Manifold Mouse
Manifold Mouse has the opportunity to steal the show in this deck. When you cast it, you'll likely want to take advantage of its offspring ability to create a token copy of itself. That will allow you two instances of being able to give a Mouse you control either double strike or trample at the beginning of your combat phase. You could even target the same Mouse to turn it into a force of devastation on the battlefield.

The other Mice in this deck can be very lethal opponents as well. Emberheart Challenger has prowess, so it gets bigger and better with each noncreature spell you cast. It can also act as a source of additional cards when you target it with a spell or ability. Heartfire Hero also benefits from being the target of a spell or ability by getting a +1/+1 counter the first time it's targeted each turn. It can also act as a source of direct damage to your opponent's life total when it dies.

Boros Beza's Tokens

Next, I have a Red deck that adds quite a bit of White mana that focuses on the creation of creature tokens. Let's take a look at the deck.

Beza, the Bounding Spring
Beza, the Bounding Spring, the namesake of this deck, does all it can to act as a catch-up mechanism to keep you in the game. Whether you're behind on the number of lands you have in play, the number of creatures you control, the amount of life you have, or the number of cards you have in your hand, Beza does their best to put you on equal footing with your opponent.

Beza is just one way that this deck can create creature tokens. Others include Urabrask's Forge, Skrelv's Hive, and White Sun's Twilight, to name just a few. You'll want to get a copy of Caretaker's Talent in play quickly to take advantage of creating all of these tokens. Not only will Caretaker's Talent allow you to draw a card when you create a token, but, as long as you level it up all the way, your creature tokens can get a +2/+2 bonus. This will make it a lot easier to defeat your opponent in no time.

Izzet Otter Aggro

The next deck I have for you features aggressive Otters. Let's check it out.

Stormcatch Mentor
Stormcatch Mentor has both haste and prowess, allowing you to attack quickly and for a lot of damage. It also reduces the mana value of your instant and sorcery spells by one while it's on the battlefield. That allows you to cast those spells more easily, potentially allowing you to cast extra instants and sorceries each turn, pumping up Stormcatch Mentor's power and toughness even more.

You can create even more Otters that have prowess when you have Stormchaser's Talent on the battlefield. You'll get one when Stormchaser's Talent enters the battlefield, plus you'll create another one for each instant and sorcery you cast while Stormchaser's Talent is at level 3. All of those Otters should allow you to attack for a ton of damage, hopefully finishing off your opponent with ease.

Rakdos Outlaws

The next deck I have for you adds Black mana and a whole bunch of outlaws. It's also a great option for those of you that have a limited budget. Let's take a look at the deck.

Gev, Scaled Scorch
While you have Gev, Scaled Scorch in play, whenever you cast a Lizard spell, Gev will deal one damage to your opponent. That makes casting either Flamecache Gecko or Forsaken Miner very worthwhile. If you also happen to have Vial Smasher, Gleeful Grenadier on the battlefield when you cast either of these creatures, you'll deal an additional point of damage to your opponent, as they are both outlaws.

You'll be able to deal even more incidental damage to your opponent while you have Rakish Crew on the battlefield. This enchantment causes your opponent to lose one life and you to gain one life whenever an outlaw you control dies. You'll also create a 1/1 Mercenary creature token that can grant a creature a +1/+0 bonus while tapped, just like the creature token created when Nezumi Linkbreaker dies. These bonuses can help you swing for more damage, plus they'll enable Rakish Crew to deal damage if they happen to die.

Gruul Dino Ramp

The final deck I have for you adds Green mana, allowing you to cast some truly large creatures. Let's take a look at the deck.

Vaultborn Tyrant
While the last deck was a budget option, this deck most certainly is not. In fact, it utilizes a full playset of Vaultborn Tyrant, one of Standard's most expensive creatures. But the price of Vaultborn Tyrant is definitely worth it, as it will create a token copy of itself when it dies, providing you with a ton of value. While it is on the battlefield, you'll be able to gain extra life and draw a card whenever any of your creatures enters play.

Since all of the Dinosaurs in this deck have a high mana value, you'll need some ways of ramping up your mana production. Glimpse the Core and Invasion of Zendikar // Awakened Skyclave offer you the opportunity to put additional lands into play. Alternatively, you can play Smuggler's Surprise for 6 mana to be able to put up to two creature cards from your hand onto the battlefield. For bonus cred points, put Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant into play with Smuggler's Surprise, then drop all of your other Dinosaurs from your hand onto the battlefield.

Wrapping Up

As a mostly Red player, I'm looking forward to trying out all of these decks. Since most of these decks lean toward an aggressive nature, they really show how other colors can also have an aggressive side.

What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
