Hello everyone. With the Christmas season close at hand, I've been hearing one of my favorite Christmas songs being played. Silver and Gold, sung by Burl Ives in the classic Christmas special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, always brings a smile to my face. It's also the inspiration for this week's article. The sparkle and glitter of silver and gold has been captured in a card currently in Standard, and I've got a few different decks for you that feature this card - All That Glitters. All of these decks have done well on Magic Arena, and have won six or more matches in a row during Ranked play by players at Platinum or Mythic ranking. Let's get started.
Selesnya Enchantments
We start this week with a Selesnya deck, the most traditional colors to feature an enchantment themed deck. Let's take a look at it.

- 2 Hushbringer
- 4 Alseid of Life's Bounty
- 4 Selfless Savior
- 4 Setessan Champion
- 4 Stonecoil Serpent
- Instants (7)
- 3 Heroic Intervention
- 4 Karametra's Blessing
- Enchantments (13)
- 2 Solid Footing
- 3 Setessan Training
- 4 All That Glitters
- 4 Sentinel's Eyes
- Lands (22)
- 10 Plains
- 4 Forest
- 4 Branchloft Pathway
- 4 Temple of Plenty
- Sideboard (15)
- 1 Hushbringer
- 2 Archon of Sun's Grace
- 2 Bronzehide Lion
- 3 Drannith Magistrate
- 2 Wilt
- 2 Heliod's Punishment
- 3 Mirror Shield
All That Glitters gives the enchanted creature a +1/+1 bonus for each artifact and enchantment you control. In order to maximize the effectiveness of this enchantment, you'll want to enchant a creature that has some sort of evasion, if at all possible. A couple of great choices in this deck are Hushbringer and Stonecoil Serpent. Hushbringer has both flying and lifelink, which makes it possible to avoid any blockers while dealing damage to your opponent and increasing your own life total all at once. Stonecoil Serpent has protection from multicolored, so it's very possible that your opponent may not be able to block this creature when you attack. It's also an artifact, so it being in play increases the effectiveness of All That Glitters.
This deck also provides a pair of terrific instant spells that can help protect the creature you have enchanted from coming to harm. Karametra's Blessing can be used to protect a single creature by providing that creature both hexproof and indestructibility until the end of the turn. In addition, it also provides a +2/+2 boost to the targeted creature. Heroic Intervention offers hexproof and indestructibility to all of your permanents until the end of the turn. It's a great way to avoid both mass removal spells and targeted removal. Since it protects all of your permanents, not just your creatures, you'll be able to keep spells at bay that would destroy your enchantments in addition to protecting your creatures.
Mono-White Aggro
The next deck I have for you is a Mono-White deck that tends to be aggressive. Let's take a look at it.
Mono-White Aggro | ZNR Standard | Unknown Platinum/Mythic Ranked Player
- Companion (1)
- 1 Lurrus of the Dream-Den
- Creatures (20)
- 4 Alseid of Life's Bounty
- 4 Gingerbrute
- 4 Hushbringer
- 4 Selfless Savior
- 4 Stonecoil Serpent
- Instants (4)
- 4 Karametra's Blessing
- Enchantments (15)
- 3 Indomitable Will
- 4 All That Glitters
- 4 Sentinel's Eyes
- 4 Solid Footing
- Lands (21)
- 20 Plains
- 1 Crawling Barrens
- Sideboard (14)
- 2 Seasoned Hallowblade
- 3 Giant Killer
- 2 Disenchant
- 2 Swift Response
- 1 Mirror Shield
- 4 Glass Casket
By replacing Setessan Champion with Gingerbrute, you get a hasty attacker that can begin dealing damage on turn one and helps to increase the damage output of All That Glitters. Since Gingerbrute also has the potential to be unblockable, if you enchant it with All That Glitters, you can swing in for a fair amount of damage that can't be absorbed by your opponent's creatures.
If you find that your opponent is able to race you with aggressive damage, you can slow things down and leave up powerful blockers instead of swinging them into the red zone. Doing so offers you the ability to flash in Indomitable Will, giving the targeted creature a +1/+2 bonus and allowing you to be a more effective blocker than your opponent thought.
Mono-White Midrange
Next, we have another Mono-White deck, but one that's more of a midrange deck. Let's check it out.
Mono-White Midrange | ZNR Standard | Unknown Platinum/Mythic Ranked Player
- Creatures (21)
- 1 Arcanist's Owl
- 1 Realm-Cloaked Giant
- 2 Archon of Sun's Grace
- 2 Heliod, Sun-Crowned
- 3 Archon of Emeria
- 4 Alseid of Life's Bounty
- 4 Luminarch Aspirant
- 4 Speaker of the Heavens
- Planeswalkers (2)
- 2 Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis
- Instants (2)
- 2 Fight as One
- Enchantments (8)
- 4 All That Glitters
- 4 Banishing Light
- Artifacts (2)
- 2 Glass Casket
- Lands (19)
- 15 Plains
- 4 Castle Ardenvale
By adding a few removal spells, this deck sets itself up nicely to be able to fight a longer battle than the previous White deck did. Glass Casket performs two duties. It removes an opponent's threat, plus it is an artifact, so it gives a bonus to the creature enchanted with All That Glitters.
This deck also features Archon of Sun's Grace, which has a constellation ability. This ability creates a 2/2 Pegasus creature token with flying whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control. Since Archon of Sun's Grace also provides lifelink to Pegasus creatures you control, you'll be able to gain additional life while knocking your opponent's life total down, offering you some protection from aggressive decks.
Orzhov Enchantments
Up next, we see what adding Black mana to these White decks brings. Let's take a look at the deck.
Orzhov Enchantments | ZNR Standard | Unknown Platinum/Mythic Ranked Player
- Companion (1)
- 1 Lurrus of the Dream-Den
- Creatures (18)
- 1 Eidolon of Obstruction
- 1 Stonecoil Serpent
- 4 Alseid of Life's Bounty
- 4 Aphemia, the Cacophony
- 4 Hateful Eidolon
- 4 Pious Wayfarer
- Instants (2)
- 2 Heartless Act
- Sorceries (2)
- 1 Agadeem's Awakening
- 1 Emeria's Call
- Enchantments (18)
- 3 Dead Weight
- 3 Sentinel's Eyes
- 4 All That Glitters
- 4 Mire's Grasp
- 4 Mogis's Favor
- Lands (20)
- 6 Swamp
- 7 Plains
- 1 Castle Locthwain
- 2 Temple of Silence
- 4 Brightclimb Pathway
- Sideboard (14)
- 1 Stonecoil Serpent
- 3 Giant Killer
- 1 Cling to Dust
- 1 Bloodchief's Thirst
- 3 Agonizing Remorse
- 3 Duress
- 1 Soul-Guide Lantern
- 1 Dead Weight
By playing an enchantment-based deck that includes Black, you open up a ton of additional removal spells. Mogis's Favor is terrific at picking off an opponent's threats with a single point of toughness. Plus, it can be escaped from your graveyard to use multiple times, and can be stacked to take down bigger threats. Mire's Grasp and Dead Weight can be used to take down bigger threats. All of these cards work wonderfully in conjunction with Hateful Eidolon, allowing you the chance to draw additional cards throughout the game.
This deck also uses Lurrus of the Dream-Den as its companion. Since enchantments are permanent cards, you can use the ability of Lurrus to return one costing two mana or less to the battlefield each turn. That allows you multiple uses of Dead Weight and Mire's Grasp, even though they don't have an escape ability. It also allows you the ability to return destroyed creatures to the battlefield, ensuring you are never defenseless.
Four-Color Enchantments
The final deck I have for you includes cards in all of the colors in the previous decks, plus the addition of Red. Let's check it out.
Four-Color Enchantments | ZNR Standard | Unknown Platinum/Mythic Ranked Player
- Creatures (16)
- 3 Alseid of Life's Bounty
- 3 Hateful Eidolon
- 3 Mire Triton
- 3 Storm Herald
- 4 Setessan Champion
- Sorceries (7)
- 3 Agadeem's Awakening
- 4 Call of the Death-Dweller
- Enchantments (18)
- 1 Escape Velocity
- 2 Setessan Training
- 3 Demonic Embrace
- 4 All That Glitters
- 4 Sentinel's Eyes
- 4 Tymaret Calls the Dead
The addition of Red mana only offers us one enchantment we didn't already have access to. That enchantment is Escape Velocity. Escape Velocity gives the enchanted creature a +1/+0 bonus, but it also provides haste, which can be important if you want to get an unexpected victory. The fact that it only costs a single mana is also important, and it makes it an easy enabler of All That Glitters.
Red mana also allows this deck to play Storm Herald. Its ability allows you to attach any number of Aura cards from your graveyard to Storm Herald when it enters the battlefield, but those Auras will be exiled at the beginning of your next end step. Storm Herald also has haste, and this allows you the opportunity to make one huge attack. This attack can be especially deadly if you have a copy of Demonic Embrace attached, as this enchantment provides a +3/+1 bonus and the enchanted creature also gets flying.
Wrapping Up
All That Glitters only costs 2 mana to cast, but the bonus it provides can truly be game changing.
