Andrew Brown Controls the Top 8 in Denver!

Reddit

The final Standard Grand Prix before the addition of Fate Reforged is in the books. Grand Prix Denver featured just under 1,500 players duking it out in Khans of Tarkir Standard. At the end of two days a star studded Top 8 remained including Hall of Famer William "Huey" Jensen, former United States National Champion Paul Cheon, and Pro Tour regulars Valetin Mackl and Sam Pardee.

The finals pitted Pro Tour Magic 2015 Top 8 competitor Matt Sperling with Abzan Aggro fighting against Andrew Brown and Blue-Black Control. Sperling had not lost a match all weekend and came out of the gates with aggressive two drops like Heir of the Wilds,Fleecemane Lion, and Rakshasa Deathdealer. Brown sat back and reacted to Sperling's aggressive plays with Bile Blight, Dissolve, and Perilous Vault. Matt's Abzan army eventually fell under the weight of Andrew's Pearl Lake Ancient with the leviathan handing Sperling his first loss of the weekend at an inopportune time.
