Eric Peters wins Grand Prix Omaha!

Reddit

Grand Prix Omaha may have been Treasure Cruise's last hurrah. The final tournament before Pro Tour Fate Reforged (and the related Banned & Restricted list update) had 1,139 players all battling to be the best thoroughly modern Magician. The Top 8 reflected a diverse format and featured seven different archetypes, from stalwarts Birthing Pod and Blue-Red Delver to returning entrants Merfolk and Zoo.

The finals saw Eric Peters and his take on Birthing Pod up against Stephen Speck and Amulet Bloom Combo. Speck's deck attempts to abuse Amulet of Vigor, Summer Bloom, and lands such as Gruul Turf to generate a significant mana advantage. Combining Hive Mind and Pact of Negation can lead to a combo finish, as can Primeval Titan and Slayer's Stronghold.

Speck's deck, however, did not fire in the finals. Eric Peters' consistent Birthing Pod deck was able to take down Stephen's more volatile deck, netting Peters the trophy.

Jon Paton took Merfolk all the way to the semi-finals. This disruptive "fish" deck uses the multiple merfolk lords to apply pressure while utilizing Æther Vial to flood the board.

Pascal Maynard and Stephen Berrios both took Blue-Red Delver to the elimination rounds. Maynard went more aggressive with four copies of Goblin Guide while Berrios had a more traditional build.

Scott Lipp's take on BreachScape is what happens when two-combo decks, well, combo. Part Scapeshift, part Through the Breach, this deck can attack from multiple angles and sometimes just attacks for the win with a rather large Eldrazi titan.

Andrew Elenbogen drew upon the power of the Urza Tron and Karn Liberated to secure his spot in the Top 8. Using the powerful colorless lands, Elenbogen's deck attempted to power out expensive threats far faster than his adversaries, hoping to overwhelm their relatively puny defenses.

Zac Roorda took a trip to the Zoo. The old, multi-colored aggro deck is back, this time with a Siege Rhino in the menagerie. Gone are the days of Tribal Flames and instead there are quite a few efficient 4/4 (or larger) creatures.
