Cheon, Froehlich and Scott-Vargas Smash San Jose

Reddit

Team Sealed events never seem to let down the Magic loving masses. After two days of competition four teams remained to battle in the Top 4 of Grand Prix San Jose and it was a murderer's row. Almost 80 Grand Prix Top 8s, 19 Pro Tour Top 8s, four Pro Tour Trophies, and two Hall of Famers. Oh, and one team playing to qualify a member for Pro Tour Fate Reforged in a week's time.

The Pork Bun Oath - Eric Froehlich, Luis Scott-Vargas, and Paul Cheon were on a mission to get Paul qualified to the Pro Tour happening in what feels like hours. They had the foot on the gas pedal all weekend and overcame their Canadian opponents - Sean Gifford, Tyler Blum, and Robert Smith - in the semi-finals.

The other end of the bracket held the winners of the last team Grand Prix in San Jose - Matt Sperling, David Williams, and Paul Rietzl face off against Ari Lax, Craig Wescoe, and Chris Fennell. To the victors went to spoils and the team of Rietzl/Sperling/Williams advanced to what could only be described as a dream finals.

Titans colided in the finals in a match that went to the last game. Luis Scott-Vargas took his match against Dave Wiliams, including some tight play with Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest. Sperling defeated Froelich. Appropriately, Paul Cheon's fate and that of his team rested in his own hands. Fortunately for Paul, he was able to clutch out his match against Hall of Famer Paul Rietzl in two tight games.

Congratulations to Paul Cheon, Eric Froehlich, and Luis Scott-Vargas, the champions of Grand Prix San Jose.
