Just over 1000 players braved some treacherous travel conditions to descend on Memphis for a Standard Grand Prix. At the end of Day 2 only eight players remained to battle for the trophy and title including Hall of Famer Ben Stark, former Player of the Year Brad Nelson (who was playing in his eighth Standard Grand Prix Top 8 in ten attempts), and Chris Fennel from the Top 8 of Pro Tour Born of the Gods.

In the end it was the Hall of Famer Stark with his Red-White Aggro deck facing off against Jack Fogle and his Planeswalker heavy Sultai Control. Game one went long but once Fogle was able to stick an Ugin, the Spirit Dragon Ben Stark packed it up. Game two went to the member of the hallowed hall thanks to another Mythic Rare in Soulfire Grandmaster. The deciding game seemed fated to end quickly as Fogle went on the offensive with a sequential pair of one-mana Tasigur, the Golden Fangs. Ben Stark could deal with the ancient Khan of the Sultai and extended his hand.
