Dang Dominated Pro Tour Dragons of Tarkir

Reddit

Three days in Brussels, Belgium. Three days with Dragons of Tarkir helping to define Standard and Draft. The professional Magic scene looked skyward but at the end of the day Dragons fell to an army of Goblins from the Mountains at Pro Tour Dragons of Tarkir.

The game's very best did battle with decks old and new, Abzan, Green Devotion, Blue-Black Control, and even Chromanticore paired with Soulflayer. At the end of the second day the Top 8 was set with rising stars Ondrej Starsky and Justin Chung doing battle against luminaries like Adrian Sullivan and Shota Yasooka.

The finals pitted Yasooka, with his Dragon-heavy build of Blue-Black Control facing off against Grand Prix Liverpool champion Martin Dang with a Mono-Red deck that splashed green for Atarka's Command and Become Immense. Yasooka, who played his deck at a crisp pace all weekend, fell in four games to Dang's deck, which he played just as fast, but that had something to do with being loaded with red cards.

Mono-Red and Abzan were the most heavily played decks on Day On and red repeated the feat on Day Two with Blue-Black Control leapfrogging Abzan for second place. Moving forward it will be interesting to see how Standard develops in the wake of its new overlords - fuzzy goblins.

Congratulations to Martin Dang, the champion of Pro Tour Dragons of Tarkir!
