Standard with Dragons of Tarkir continues to be shaped by a battle between the dragons from the current timeline and the clans from the abandoned time stream. With five decks representing the Atarka Clan and three representing the Abzan Houses, the Top 8 of Grand Prix Shanghai was conspicuous in its lack of Islands.

The Top 8 featured Pro Tour Top 8 competitors Nam Sung Wook and Yuuki Ichikawa, as well as World Team Champion Li Bo. At the end of the day it was the Pro Tour veteran Ichikawa with Abzan Control taking home the trophy after defeating Devsharan Singh with Red Green Dragons.
