DailyMTG Shifts Schedule

Reddit

In an update posted today on the recently refreshed MagicTheGathering.com, new DailyMTG.com content manager Blake Rasmussen explained that the historical midnight Eastern update schedule for the site will shift back eleven hours: Starting Monday, July 7 the site will post new content and articles at 11 AM Eastern, but expand with localized versions of select columns:

Additionally, next Monday, July 7, we're launching the first week of a more localized DailyMTG.com. Starting on Monday and going forward, three columns will be translated into Japanese, German, French, Italian, and Spanish and simultaneously published with the English versions:

  • Making Magic by Mark Rosewater
  • Uncharted Realms, the weekly look into the lore and story of Magic
  • Latest Developments by Sam Stoddard

We've localized content in the past, but rarely for simultaneous publishing. We're excited to expand our content to Magic players in a variety of languages, and it only makes sense to recognize the globalization of our content by reexamining when that content is being published.

Furthermore, when we delved into why we updated at 9 p.m. Pacific/12 a.m. Eastern, it became apparent the reason was, more or less, because we always have. Magic is never a game to resist change, so we endeavor for our content to be willing to change for the right reasons as well. The globalization of Magic and the content here on DailyMTG.com are exactly the right reasons.

Rasmussen went to share other content features coming in the future:

  • Top Pro Player and one of the current contenders for 2014's Player of the Year Reid Duke will be taking over the introductory competitive theory column Level One from longtime DailyMTG.com writer Mike Flores.
  • Additional content, including regular columns, will feature and build on the organized play side of Magic. How this will tie into the current Grand Prix and Pro Tour coverage isn't yet clear.
  • A "Multiplayer Week" revolving around a project by former Gathering Magic writer and current author of the Serious Fun column Bruce Richard will be revealed this October.

As always, Gathering Magic will continue to update with news and spoilers as the information becomes available. With DailyMTG.com changing times you can expect even more reasons to visit Gathering Magic throughout the day. Will you be ready for the change this Monday?
