Majors Takes Grand Prix San Diego to School

Reddit

Michael Majors has won Grand Prix San Diego! The first constructed Grand Prix in the wake of Pro Tour Magic Origins saw the continued evolution of Standard. Red decks, similar to the one that Joel Larsson used to win the Pro Tour, were nowhere in the Top 8. The finals saw Artur Villela's Abzan Constellation up against Michael Majors with his take on Andrew Cuneo's Blue-Red Sphinx's Tutelage mill deck. Neither of these decks were mainstream powerhouses before this weekend but that may change very soon.

Game one saw Majors grind his way to victory on turn five. Game two took a few more turns but when Majors was able to resolve two copies of Sphinx's Tutelage there was little Villela's army of Enchantments could do. In the end the last card hit the bin and Majors raised his arms in victory. In his winner's interview Majors said that he only recently picked up the deck. He learned on the fly and taught the rest of the Grand Prix a lesson.
