Congratulations to Matt Nass, Jacob Wilson, Sam Pardee, the winning team at Grand Prix Detroit! Their road to victory was not an easy one as the Top 4 consisted of the following teams:
The players in the elimination rounds have amassed some impressive results. There was an average of one Hall of Famer per team (although three of them were on Stark/Scott-Vargas/Froehlich) and over 20 Pro Tour Top 8s. Each team had one player that will be participating in the World Championships. The community certainly took notice of the talent in this Top 4:
(Marc) Just about 125 Grand Prix Top 8s in the feature match area right now—not including this current #GPDetroit.

This insane GP top 4 is actually why I have been skipping team GPs- seems like poor way to qualify unless you have Platinums to team with.

I did the math. The #gpdetroit top 4 has 254 PT top 8s, 64 wins, 1,734 GP top 8s, 439 wins, and 24,745 Pro Points, collectively.

No matter which team emerged at the end of Sunday, the victory would be earned.
What many considered a dream finish took place in the penultimate round. The team of Turtenwald/Jensen/Duke squared off against Stark/Scott-Vargas/Froehlich. It was the peach Garden Oath against the Pork Ben Oath. In the end, two Hall of Famers and one Hall of Famer-elect triumphed over Owen, Huey, and Reid.
In the other pairing, Nass/Wilson/Pardee took on Shenhar/Costa/Parker. Nass and Wilson were no strangers to the Sunday stage at team events having won Grand Prix Nashville. Detroit was a repeat with Nass, Wilson, and Pardee finding themselves in the finals.
Nass was first to draw blood, defeating Ben Stark in two games. Luis Scott-Vargas was up one game against Jacob Wilson while Froehlich and Pardee were engaged in their decider. The Hall of Famer elect was choked on mana and could not muster a defense against Pardee’s blue-white deck. Froehlich extended the hand and Grand Prix Detroit had its champions.
