"That's quite a list," you say.
Mari leans back into her beanbag. "I've had a look," she says. "It's a long list of rules, all right. But still reasonable."
"Do you think they're going to get a lot of people?" CJ asks. "I mean, with the restrictions and all?"
"Probably not," you say. "I mean, when all is said and done, they're just a game store. Even if they're re-opening after all these weeks, they're not exactly a massive priority for most people."
"I don't know," CJ says, dubiously. "There are probably a lot of players out there who are missing the prerelease events. Or the Unabridged Cube."
"That might just be true," Mari says. "We've been lucky so far: Given the twins' collection, we've practically had access to an unabridged Cube of our own."
"Speaking of which," Cécile notes, "It's your turn, CJ."
"Is it? What did you do?"
"I jump-started Radical Idea from my graveyard, and drew into a Maze Glider... which I just played."
"No attacks?"
"No attacks," Cécile says. "You've still got that Wall of Air on your side."
"Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entrance," you read. "I'm surprised they managed to get their hands on a supply of the stuff."
"The distributors probably stocked up," Mari says. "I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of bulk orders got filled over the last few weeks."
"You've got four flyers, right?" CJ asks Cécile.
"Counting the one pinned down by your Leaden Fists, I've got five. But my Bant Battlemage can make anything fly."
"And I haven't exactly drawn removal," CJ sighs.
"Face masks will be required for anyone entering the store," you read, raising an eyebrow. "That's interesting."
"What's wrong?" Mari asks, dragging the beanbag over to CJ. "We have face masks."
"Nothing's wrong with that. There's just a little note here that says that the game store will be selling reusable cloth masks for anyone who doesn't have one."
"I'm impressed. That is an interesting move. And a profitable one."
"How many people are going to forget a face mask in this day and age?" CJ asks.
"...And this is coming from someone who signs up for Standard tournaments, then realizes that they forgot to bring their deck." Mari says, looking over CJ's shoulder. "Is that what you just drew?"
"Um... yes."
Mari thinks for a short while. "Yeah, well... okay."
"That's good, right?" CJ asks.
"I guess you could say that."
"It's not nice to torture the man, Mari," Cécile says. "Even if that's not sounding good from where I'm sitting."
"I can win the game this turn, can I?" CJ asks.
"I didn't say anything," Mari says. "Not technically, anyway."
"So," CJ says, "what you're really saying is, I can win the game this turn with just this Despondency?"
"By the way, they're selling cast-iron dice now," you say without looking up. "Just in case any of you are interested, that's all."

Last Week's Puzzle
Correct solutions to last week's puzzle were received from Jonah Comstock, Greg Dreher, Jacob Butcher, and Michael Feldman.
"This is a fun little puzzle," Jonah Comstock writes. "It might seem like our side of the board is sparser than usual, but we have a lot of tools at our disposal, including the surprisingly versatile Lightning Greaves (not an EDH staple for nothing!), a couple of spells that cost a lot less than they seem to, and, oh yeah, a giant flyer who cancels out the downside of Dovescape but leaves the upside intact."
"Dovescape actually has two independent effects: Counterspell and Bird creation," Jacob Butcher explains. "When Thryx, the Sudden Storm prevents the counterspell ability, it does not prevent Bird creation."
"This is a puzzle where you start by envisioning your path to victory, then work backwards," Greg Dreher notes. "There's only one: Attack with Thryx, the Sudden Storm, with CJ no longer having Serra's Guardian and Voice of Truth to block, and cast Covenant of Blood.
"Your biggest constraint, however, is mana. You need, at minimum, for Covenant of Blood and for Scribe of the Mindful, which leaves only three mana for casting Death Rattle, or two if you also need to use Doomed Necromancer (and you can only do that once):
- Tap Whisper, Blood Liturgist and sacrifice Cavalier of Night and Whisper, Blood Liturgist to return Thryx, the Sudden Storm from your graveyard to the battlefield. Return Scribe of the Mindful to the battlefield with Cavalier of Night's death trigger.
- Equip Lightning Greaves to Scribe of the Mindful.
- Spend and tap and sacrifice Scribe of the Mindful to return Covenant of Blood from your graveyard to your hand.
- Spend and tap and sacrifice Doomed Necromancer to return Cavalier of Night to the battlefield, holding priority.
- In response, spend and exile Kjeldoran Dead, Scribe of the Mindful, Doomed Necromancer, and Whisper, Blood Liturgist to cast Death Rattle (which costs due to Thryx), targeting Voice of Truth. You get six Bird tokens from Dovescape, but the spell isn't countered because of Thryx.
- Return Cavalier of Night to the battlefield. Sacrifice a Bird token to its enters-the-battlefield triggered ability and destroy Serra's Guardian.
- Spend and tap five bird tokens to cast Covenant of Blood (which costs due to Thryx), targeting CJ. You get seven Bird tokens from Dovescape, but the spell isn't countered because of Thryx. CJ goes to 4 and you go to 11.
- Equip Lightning Greaves to Thryx, the Sudden Storm.
- Attack with Thryx, the Sudden Storm. He brings down purple rain for 4 damage and the win.
There are some variants to this solution, particularly because you have more mana available than you need to use (although you did need at least five mana to cast Cavalier of Night in the first place!).
"The Gatherer entry for Dovescape is really key," Michael Feldman notes, "making it clear that Thryx would take all the advantage with no disadvantage. Once again, CJ shot himself in the foot with a fancy card that he should have known would come back to bite him. Am I expecting too much? Maybe I'm just too demanding. Maybe he's never satisfied."
