Things have obviously changed with your local game store over the past few months: There's a hand sanitizer station at the front entrance, the cash register now has several sneeze screens set up, and the tournament area's seats are now spaced farther apart.
Some things never change, though, and a good number of people have showed up to buy Ikoria boosters and stock up on singles. In a move that's surprised no one, they've also started up an Unabridged Cube draft in an effort to catch some possible Core Set 2021 or Jumpstart previews.
The Unabridged Cube is a store-maintained collection of one of each card ever printed, but that isn't its biggest draw. It also has an unsettling habit of putting unreleased cards in the laps of its players, and that's been enough to keep you coming back again and again.
"Not everyone's come back yet," Leon muses. "I think some people are still afraid they might catch something if they step out of the house."
"Either that, or they're already playing Arena," you note. "There's nothing like good old cardstock, though."
"And sleeves," Leon adds. "We should be thankful for card sleeves. They go so well with the hand sanitizer and the face masks."
For that matter, face masks have been the talk of the day. It turns out that your store isn't just selling custom face masks - it's selling unique custom face masks. Leon himself happens to be wearing a blue plaid face mask with little kittens embroidered all over it, and you wonder if some enterprising gamer out there is sewing these together from old clothes and fabrics.
"So, here's my play," Leon says. "I'll cat... I mean, cast Regal Caracal. That creates two Cat tokens."
"I'll take that to mean that you're not planning to attack," you say, nodding.
"No," Leon says. "I might wait you out instead. I'll tap my last three lands and cast Nine Lives?"
You reach across the table and turn the card in your direction. "Oooh," you say, "a preview."
Leon chuckles. "That's what I came here for, and the Cube didn't disappoint."
"That's quite a stall card, though."
"The way I see it," Leon notes, "we're stalled anyway. But I know you're down more cards than me - I remember that you cast that Divination a while back."
"And I had that Think Twice at the start of the game," you admit. Both of you are still a long way from getting decked, but your opponent does have a point.
"Okay," Leon says. "With that in play, I'll stay back and see what you want to do about it. It's your turn."
You untap your lands. "That Cloudthresher has Reach, right?" you ask.
"Yes, and so does my Grazing Whiptail. And I still have the Sungrace Pegasus."
You nod as you draw your card for the turn - a Select for Inspection. "You're at fourteen life, right?" you ask.
"I'm at fourteen, yes. You?"
"Twelve," you say, checking your scorepad.
"That's still some ways off," Leon says. "Good thing we finished our first two games quickly."
"I think they've extended the round times slightly. Some people are still getting used to playing the Cube again after a while of being stuck at home. And, judging from all the hand sanitizer, we need to be careful with the fact that we're sharing the cards."
"You mean you had a Cube at home?" Leon asks.
"I might have hung out with some friends and a good-sized collection of cards."
"That must have been a good few weeks," he agrees.
You drum your fingers on the table for a while. It's been a while since you've done this sort of thing, but you think you can figure your way out of this one. Perhaps some things indeed never change.
It is the start of your first main phase. Defeat Leon before the beginning of his next combat phase.

Last Week's Puzzle
It turns out that last week's puzzle had an error, which prevented this from having a solution! Rather than your opponent having a Consulate Skygate on their side of the table, they should have a Mourning Thrull in its place.
Because this error may have prevented a number of people from submitting a correct solution, we're extending our deadline for these.
