With Ursula finally defeated, the Illumineers and fellow glimmers get a moment to breathe and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Shimmering Skies is the 5th set for Disney Lorcana and is a moment of celebration to enjoy with new glimmers from Wreck-it Ralph, as well as previous ones, such as Elsa, Anna, and Olaf. Let's take a look at some of our initial reveals.

Product Line

Booster Packs and Boxes

Shimmering Skies will continue with booster boxes containing 24 booster packs of 12 cards. Each booster pack will most likely to continue with the following:

• 6 common cards
• 3 uncommon cards
• 2 rare, super rare, or legendary cards
• 1 foil card can that ranges from a common card all the way to an alternate art enchanted card.

Starter Decks

Shimmering Skies will debut with two starter decks. The first one being an Amethyst/Ruby deck showcasing both Elsa and Wreck-it Ralph. The second one is an Emerald/Steel deck showcasing Scar and Kronk. These are both very popular color combinations in competitive decks, so I'm curious to see what's in store with these variants.

Illumineer's Trove

The crowd favorite, the Illumineer's Trove, continues to bring added value by providing a sturdy storage solution, 8 booster packs, a lore counter, shimmering dice for damage counters, and card dividers. The card dividers seem to be ink colors based on the reveal during the Lorecast, a periodically streamed presentation hosted by Ravensburger detailing the release of Shimmering Skies.

Portfolios

Portfolios are back and improved! We now have a 9 slot portfolio, an upgrade from the previous 4 slot ones from The First Chapter. One portfolio resembles the back art of a traditional Lorcana card, while the other represents amazing art from cards released in the first set, The First Chapter.

Card Sleeves and Cases

Disney Lorcana now has 3 additional options when it comes to sleeves, and 2 additional options when it comes to deck cases. Traditionally, Disney Lorcana matches the sleeves with the deck cases. This is the case again with Shimmering Skies, however, we have a 3rd option for sleeves. We have the original artwork for the card backs of Lorcana as sleeves now. This is great as it represents the great card back art we know and love and can finally show without having to use clear sleeves.

Playmats

I'm a sucker for new playmats, and I already have my eye on both of the new ones revealed. Casa Madrigal is based on the most recent card from the latest set, Ursula's Return. The mat features the beautiful card art from a fantastic franchise that is loved in our household. The second mat also features a card from Ursula's Return, which is Belle - Accomplished Mystic. The art on this card is fantastic, so I'm sure the mat will definitely do it justice for fans of Belle.

Gateway

New to the product line is a product called Gateway, which is a gentle introduction to Lorcana. Through stages, you learn basic rules on how to play Lorcana. The product includes additional reward packs expanding the learning starter decks so mechanics are introduced in a way that is easy to interpret. If you're looking to get a friend or family member into the game, this would most likely be a good product ot explore.

Conclusion

What an explosive release of new content coming to Disney Lorcana. The set kicks off one full year since the game has launched and the train isn't stopping there. I'm eager to see what other cards will be revealed as we continue to lead toward the release date of August 9th at local game stores and Disney parks, while big box retailers will start selling and shipping products by August 23rd.
