Hello everyone. The official release of Tarkir: Dragonstorm is nigh, so it's good that I've reached the end of my series where I look at decks that all feature a specific color. Since I shook things up this time by starting with Blue decks, I'll be ending with White based decks. So, without further ado, let's get started.
Mono-White Lifegain
The Mono-White deck I've chosen focuses on a major aspect of White's repertoire, gaining life. Let's take a look at the deck.
Mono-White Lifegain | DFT Standard | MTG_Joe, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (32)
- 2 Exemplar of Light
- 2 Serra Paragon
- 4 Ajani's Pridemate
- 4 Essence Channeler
- 4 Healer's Hawk
- 4 Hinterland Sanctifier
- 4 Leonin Vanguard
- 4 Linden, the Steadfast Queen
- 4 Ruin-Lurker Bat
- Enchantments (8)
- 4 Leyline of Hope
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
- Lands (20)
- 20 Plains
If you're able to begin the game with a copy of Leyline of Hope on the battlefield, you'll be in a really good spot. There are a ton of creatures in this deck that either have lifelink or gain you life when other creatures enter the battlefield, so you can amass a lot of extra life throughout the game. That extra life will help to fuel your big hitters like Exemplar of Light and Essence Channeler.
Serra Paragon can help ensure that your battlefield is loaded up with creatures. This Angel can return almost all of your other creatures to the battlefield from your graveyard, with the exception of Exemplar of Light. She can also return any copies of Sheltered by Ghosts as well, ensuring that you have additional removal when you need it.
Azorius Flash
Up next, let's take a look at an Azorius deck that really doesn't want to play cards during its own turn.
Azorius Flash | DFT Standard | SwayzeMTG, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (21)
- 2 Horned Loch-Whale
- 2 Tishana's Tidebinder
- 2 Voracious Greatshark
- 3 Aven Interrupter
- 4 Brineborn Cutthroat
- 4 Enduring Curiosity
- 4 Kutzil's Flanker
- Instants (11)
- 3 Into the Flood Maw
- 4 No More Lies
- 4 Three Steps Ahead
- Enchantments (4)
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
- Lands (24)
- 5 Island
- 5 Plains
- 2 Demolition Field
- 2 Meticulous Archive
- 2 Restless Anchorage
- 4 Floodfarm Verge
- 4 Seachrome Coast
Since each and every creature in this deck has flash, you'll likely be casting them all during your opponent's turn where they can be surprise blockers. In fact, there's really only one creature you might even want to consider casting on your own turn, Horned Loch-Whale. Having a 6/6 creature in play might make your opponent reconsider attacking you.
Since your plan is to cast your creatures during your opponent's turn, you'll have all of your mana available to you in the event that you need to counter your opponent's spells or abilities. Luckily, some of your creatures will do just this. Voracious Greatshark can counter an artifact or creature spell. Aven Interrupter temporarily counters something, although that spell will come back in the future since it's only plotted. Tishana's Tidebinder takes care of abilities for as long as Tishana's Tidebinder remains on the battlefield.
Orzhov Life Gain and Drain
Next, I have an Orzhov deck that can potentially win the game if you can gain enough life throughout the game. Let's take a look at the deck.
Orzhov Life Gain and Drain | DFT Standard | JayVillain, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (24)
- 1 Lyra Dawnbringer
- 2 Amalia Benavides Aguirre
- 2 Elenda, Saint of Dusk
- 2 Gas Guzzler
- 2 Vampire Nighthawk
- 3 Giada, Font of Hope
- 4 Exemplar of Light
- 4 Resplendent Angel
- 4 Vengeful Bloodwitch
- Instants (4)
- 2 Bitter Triumph
- 2 Get Lost
- Enchantments (10)
- 2 Momentum Breaker
- 2 Valkyrie's Call
- 3 Authority of the Consuls
- 3 Case of the Uneaten Feast
- Lands (23)
- 5 Swamp
- 9 Plains
- 1 Cavern of Souls
- 1 Restless Fortress
- 1 Scoured Barrens
- 2 Bleachbone Verge
- 4 Concealed Courtyard
- Sideboard (7)
- 1 Long Goodbye
- 1 Mortify
- 1 Withering Torment
- 1 Eriette's Lullaby
- 1 Feed the Swarm
- 1 Requisition Raid
- 1 Cavern of Souls
In this deck, Amalia Benavides Aguirre can be an effective win condition. If you're able to stick a copy of Authority of the Consuls early, you can get enough explore triggers to get Amalia's power up to 20, which will allow you to destroy all other creatures in play. While this doesn't guarantee you a win, you'll have bragging rights from doing it.
A more likely route to victory, though, lies with the Angels in this deck. Giada, Font of Hope helps you cast other Angels, plus she provides them with an additional +1/+1 counter when they enter play. If you are able to gain 5 or more life during a turn, you'll get to create a 4/4 Angel creature token while Resplendent Angel is on the battlefield. There's also a copy of Lyra Dawnbringer who will boost all of your other Angels and provide them with lifelink.
Boros Vehicles
The next deck I have for you adds Red mana and features a whole bunch of vehicles. Let's check it out.
Boros Vehicles | DFT Standard | MtgMalone, aetherhub.com user
- Planeswalkers (2)
- 2 Chandra, Spark Hunter
- Instants (5)
- 2 Fuel the Flames
- 3 Gallant Strike
- Sorceries (9)
- 2 Push the Limit
- 3 Day of Judgment
- 4 Tune Up
- Artifacts (20)
- 2 Portal to Phyrexia
- 2 Salvation Engine
- 3 Clamorous Ironclad
- 3 Detention Chariot
- 3 Skybox Ferry
- 3 Valor's Flagship
- 4 Monument to Endurance
- Lands (24)
- 3 Mountain
- 8 Plains
- 1 Blast Zone
- 2 Demolition Field
- 2 Fountainport
- 4 Elegant Parlor
- 4 Sunbillow Verge
This deck features a lot of vehicles that are able to be cycled. The only one that doesn't is Salvation Engine. Since you'll want to have a graveyard full of vehicles, including Salvation Engine, you'll want to discard it by activating the +2 loyalty ability of Chandra, Spark Hunter.
Once you have a bunch of vehicles in your graveyard, you can play Push the Limit. This will return all of your Vehicle cards from your graveyard to the battlefield and they will become artifact creatures with haste for the rest of the turn. If your opponent isn't aware that you're playing Push the Limit, they will likely be caught off guard and unable to block the massive amount of damage heading their way.
Selesnya Rabbits
The final deck I have for you is a Typal deck featuring Rabbits. Let's take a look at the deck.
Selesnya Rabbits | DFT Standard | DrRuckus, aetherhub.com user
- Creatures (30)
- 1 Finneas, Ace Archer
- 1 Sanguine Evangelist
- 4 Burrowguard Mentor
- 4 Hinterland Sanctifier
- 4 Keen-Eyed Curator
- 4 Knight-Errant of Eos
- 4 Pawpatch Recruit
- 4 Valley Mightcaller
- 4 Valley Questcaller
- Sorceries (4)
- 4 Hop to It
- Enchantments (4)
- 4 Sheltered by Ghosts
I'm sure you've all heard the saying about how quickly rabbits multiply, but did you know they can quickly get bigger too? This deck proves that with +1/+1 counters and bonuses galore. Finneas, Ace Archer helps his warren by giving a +1/+1 counter to each Rabbit you control whenever he attacks. He can also be a great source of card drawing if your creatures have a combined total power of 10 or greater.
Burrowguard Mentor and Valley Mightcaller are also important attackers for this deck. Both of them have trample, enabling them to deal combat damage to your opponent if not completely blocked. Both of them also get bigger with each new creature you have that enters the battlefield. Fill up your ranks, then attack with these capable combatants.
Wrapping Up
White happens to be one of my favorite colors in Magic. Gaining life and +1/+1 counters are some of my favorite things to do, so I'm looking forward to trying out each of these decks in the first few weeks of our new Standard environment.
What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
