"Papa, where do crystal golems come from?"
"The great masters craft them using soul crystals."
"Oh . . . but where do soul crystals come from?"
"From all over the world. They are very rare. Legend says, they are the souls of people who died long before the first humans came to Carvania."
"Well, when I grow up, I'm going to be a crystal trader! I'll travel the whole world and I'll find the very best crystals and the master will make great big powerful golems from them, like the Gatekeeper!"
Take on the role of a crystal trader in the mystical world of Carvania. Trade powerful soul crystals and have the masters turn them into crystal golems! This is Century: Golem Edition!
Dealing in Soul Crystals
In Century: Golem Edition, players aim to collect and trade soul crystals in order to build crystal golems and coins that are worth points at the end of the game. Players play cards from their hands to acquire soul crystals for their caravan and trade those soul crystals in for crystal golems and money, or to purchase new crystal cards to more efficiently acquire rare and valuable soul crystals. Players take one action a turn until someone has acquired their fifth (or sixth in 2-3 player game) crystal golem, players will finish out the current round of play and the person with the most points wins!
Play or Acquire Cards
At the start of the game, each player is given two crystal cards to start with and some preliminary soul crystals. On their turn, each player may choose, as their action for the turn, to play a card from their hand, or spend soul crystals to acquire a new crystal card from the row and place it in their hand. Crystal cards allow players to acquire new soul crystals, exchange soul crystals they currently have for different ones, or upgrade a soul crystal to one worth more. Building up a good soul crystal trading engine of crystal cards is an important part of succeeding on the Golem Road, so look out for powerful play sequences when taking new cards!
Rest
Once they've played all the cards from their hands, players must use their turn action to rest and return their cards to their hand. Now they'll be able to play their cards again on future turns, building up their caravan and further developing their hand of crystal cards to start acquiring crystal golems.
Claim Point Cards
The way to win in Century: Golem Edition is to have the most points at the end of the game. Players get points when they acquire Crystal Golems and Coins by trading in their soul crystals. Each crystal golem in the row will have a different cost and overall point value listed on it, and the soul crystal cost must be paid to acquire that golem. If the two leftmost cards in the row are acquired, whoever acquired one of those crystal golems can take a coin from the pile above it. Silver coins are worth 1 point at the end of the game and copper coins are worth 3 points! Once a player has bought their fifth crystal golem, the round of play finishes and a winner is crowned!
