Detectives, welcome to Antares, the most high-tech investigation agency in the world! While working for Antares, you will operate under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, so consider yourselves servants of the public justice system.
During our first year of operation, we will be examined closely by the public, the media, and the U.S. Department of Justice. Our agency was formed to solve the most unusual cases, using the latest achievements in computer science, forensics and psychology, and now you get to do your part. There is no room for error, no room for doubt - only for your professionalism, your ethics, and your particular sets of complimentary skill, skills that you will soon put to good use. Don't let anything stop you from solving the case!
Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game tasks 1-5 players with getting to the bottom of five cases using the leads and clues they gather and the Antares database system. Players will have a limited amount of in-game time to discover the facts of the case before they must make their final report and be scored on their performance. Can you find the truth in each case? Can you follow the threads of the overarching plot of all five cases? Find out in Detective!
When players sit down to begin a case, they can choose to divide up responsibilities, establishing individual roles for each player. Having each player be responsible for a different aspect of the investigation should make it easier to tackle the daunting task before you. Players have a limited amount of time and resources to uncover the truth behind each of these cases. Sure, you can work overtime, but too much stress may find the case coming to a close before you're ready to make your final report.
In order to get to the bottom of things, players will need to uncover and follow leads, using their time to dig up information, question witnesses, do lab tests, and call in favors with your contacts. You can dig deeper on leads or leave them be if they seem like dead ends. The Antares Database will provide you with more detailed information on certain people and locations when a lead calls for it, and you can always look general knowledge topics up on the internet when the game allows it. Each player also receives an investigator with a unique ability that can be used once per day.
With these tools at your disposal, you'll have everything you need to deduce your way through the five cases and prove you are master detectives!
"This is the rare case where not only did it live up to what I hoped it was, I think it possibly exceeded my expectations so far."
