Top Ten Green Pinpoint Removal for Commander

Reddit

Hello happy folks! Today I wanted to look at my choices for the top ten pinpoint removal options in Green!

This color debuted with sweeping removal in Tranquility and Hurricane, but gained Desert Twister and Crumble in the first two expansions to show this would be great here. Ever since Disenchant was color shifted here we have tons of removal options! But it's typically bad at that creature destruction unless flying like Wing Snare. You won't have those charting today much at all! Remember this is removal, not temporary answers like Pacifism, or bounce, so you won't see here the Green Auras that shut down a dork but can be answered with their removal.

This is my final top list in this oeuvre! Here are the previous four:

Enjoy them all up and down the block!

Honorable Mention #1. (#15. Overall) - Seal of Primordium

Seal of Primordium

Hello happy enchantment fans, I've got your two-drop enchantment here! For your two mana investment you get an enchantment that you can sacrifice at any time for no investment of mana to Naturalize. Yay! Then you can recur this with enchantment or cheap cost reanimation like Sun Titan. Love this early since people may change what they drop to keep from getting targeted like Rhystic Study that next turn or The One Ring. It can really impact that board!

Honorable Mention #2. (#14. Overall) - Bushwhack

Bushwhack

Hello happy fight and mana ramp fans! I've got your one mana sorcery spell combo here! This can either fight, which is why it's here, or Tutor a basic to your hand and then shuffle like Lay of the Land! Love it much!

Honorable Mention #3. (#13. Overall) - Vivien Reid AND Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

Vivien Reid
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

This five mana mono-Green planeswalker with removal minus are next! Vivien arrives with five loyalty and can +1 to dig four and draw a dork or critter, and then -3 to destroy a flyer, artifact or enchantment. Freyalise can be your Commander and has a smaller three loyalty with a +2 to make a Llanowar Elves token! She can also -2 to Naturalize, I prefer Vivien minus since you can also take out flyers and has a bigger starting loyalty. Love this duo much for removal or elsewise!

Honorable Mention #4. (#12. Overall) - Bridgeworks Battle // Tanglespan Bridgeworks AND Khalni Ambush // Khalni Territory

Bridgeworks Battle
Khalni Ambush

This modal spell land fight duo is next! The sorcery costs three, gives your fighter +2/+2 to save and kill and then fights. On the reverse side is that sexy land that ETBs untapped if you pay a trio that life. Love that tempo potential. The instant also costs three, doesn't give a size boost, and then on the flip side is that land too, but it must ETB tapped so its always tempo lost no matter what! Love that duo since you don't have to pull that nonland card slot just pull a Forest and move on!

Bit Down and Cosmic Hunger

Honorable Mention #5 (#11 Overall). Bite Downs

Bite Down
Cosmic Hunger

These two mana Green instant commons are next! They can have your dork shoot an opposing dork for damage equal to its power. It's great with higher power but lower toughness things or deathtouch stuff! If you like this, check out what hits the next spot!

Ram Through and Infectious Bite and Windswift Slice

#10. Bite Down with Pluses

Ram Through
Infectious Bite
Windswift Slice

These are next! They'll deal their damage at instant speed to a given dork in question and then give you a boost of something too! Did it have trample? Ram Through will deal excess damage to the owner's face just like combat! Are you in an infect or poison deck? The Bite will give everyone else a poison counter! Are you in tokens or Elves or just need bodies to block? Windswift Slice will deal extra damage into 1/1 Elf Warrior tokens! Love this trio loads!

#9. Cankerbloom AND Haywire Mite

Cankerbloom
Haywire Mite

The two-mana 3/2 Fungus can be sacrificed with a mana to destroy an artifact or enchantment or just proliferate if not! You might not consider the one-drop next that's a colorless artifact next Green, but with a Green sacrifice ability, I do. You can exile a noncreature artifact or enchantment too, and you'll gain two life when it dies too. Love this and others in decks with recursion built in.

#8. Return to Nature

Return to Nature

This two-cost common instant speed will destroy an artifact, enchantment or exile a card in a graveyard like one targeted for recursion. That's a strong amount of recursion answers and removal at instant speed, hence it hitting the middle of my list since it's basically a charm...speaking of which...

#7. Archdruid's Charm

Archdruid's Charm

...this three-cost instant speed triple Green three option actually has Charm in the name! Its first ability is to ramp a land tapped of any sort or put a dork into your hand! Then then last are all removal! The middle will grow a dork permanently and then non-fight damage deal like Bite Down above, only with a bigger dork. The last ability will exile this time an artifact or enchantment so that's a better removal since they cannot be returned and works on indestructible. There's a lot to love there, but its casting cost is rough and not easily splashable, hence it hitting back here!

#6. Force of Vigor

Force of Vigor

Check out this four-cost, Modern-legal instant answer of two enchantments or artifacts, so it's a 2:1 card advantage! If it ain't your turn you can pitch a Green card to cast this free, so that's amazing in a pinch! And two for one at instant speed for a four-mana instant isn't that off the line.

#5. Collective Resistance

Collective Resistance

This two-cost uncommon instant opens our Top Five properly! It's also from a Modern Masters printing, with escalate. Base you destroy an artifact or enchantment or give something hexproof and indestructible to save it like your Commander. Then you can add modes as you spend that escalate mana! Since it's just a mana each one that means this is a three mana Force of Vigor or four mana one that also saves something keen, it's more flexible than Force but not free, so your milage may vary as to which you prefer! I obviously prefer cheaper and flexible, hence it hitting higher, but just a spot. They are close! Also note that this cannot destroy two artifacts or enchantments, just one each like Hull Breach.

#4. Krosan Grip

Krosan Grip

This three-cost Naturalize variant has split second so it cannot be traditionally answered! This is great against things that need answered but could be sacked or used first, like The One Ring, Nevinyrral's Disk or Pernicious Deed. I love it as a Commander Standard but run it less so today. Remind folks of its unstoppable power once again!!

#3. Acidic Slime

Acidic Slime

Hello happy Ooze Fans! This five-drop dork has deathtouch and has a 2/2 body too! Then when it ETBs? Destroy that land, artifact or enchantment, so it's a Creeping Mold on a stick for another mana!

Then the 2/2 body left behind with deathtouch will often keep people from attacking on the ground with bigger bodies or they won't block when you swing, they'll just suck up the damage, giving it pseudo-evasion. Don't sleep on that land removal either, since many players will run nasty non basics to break the game with hard to answer stuff like Academy Ruins or Cabal Coffers - take those out but don't go for basics or mana only stuff like Breeding Pool. Use it well and correctly. Love it!

#2. Reclamation Sage

Reclamation Sage

After Acidic Slime hit earlier, you knew this was next! This three-mana 2/1 Elf can destroy an artifact or enchantment when it hits the battlefield! Because it's cheaper than the Slime and still hits two thirds of the targets, it's here at the next spot, but you could easily make a case for the deathtouch often being a 2:1 trade and the land removal being worth the extra two mana. Your milage may vary, but I love them both and you probably do too!

#1. Beast Within

Beast Within

This three-cost uncommon has to top my list! Since it can destroy any opposing permanent at instant speed, it's the best pinpoint removal spell this color has! The only issue is that you'll leave them a 3/3 Beast token. Worth it! It's half the cost of Desert Twister and isn't a sorcery. It's worth what you give them all around the mesa. I hope you agree!

There we are! I hope that you enjoyed this fun take on the Top Ten Green Pinpoint Removal for Commander/Multiplayer? But hey, that's just my take... what's yours?
