Hello happy EDH folks! I've been building around less-popular commanders and strategies recently, like Templar Knights! Or Turbo Fog which takes that 60-card archetype for Fogs and Turbo group hug stuff like Howling Mine to draw them and deck others. with just 72 total brews. Now let's stick with rarer themes with Kicker with a total of just 89 brews too, total, for all Commanders and colors! It's also a perfect time to check out my picks for the Top Kicker Cards for Commander!
Who is my Commander? I considered Hallar, the Firefletcher, which has an on-curve 3/3 body with trample and can deal damage to opponents as you kick spells. But in the end I decided on Verazol, the Split Current. The Simic card has an X size in its cost and arrives with that many +1/+1 counters on it equal to all mana paid, not just the X. Then when you cast a kicked spell, remove two counters here to copy it. This will be more about Simic ramp to get as big of a Verazol as possible and then some proliferate stuff here too!
Mana, Rocks, Ramp and Land
Let's start with this mana rock dup with kicker to kick off this mana list! The zero one will have 2 multikickered one and taps for that colorless mana equal to the counters here! The three-mana one is a Manalith that taps for any color with indestructible so it's a Darksteel Ingot. Then that three-mana kicker will make two copies and with that extra copy from our leader? Nasty!
Vastwood Surge starts at four and has a kicker of 4 mana too, will ramp two lands tapped of the basic quality from your brew and then if kicked toss a pair of +1/+1 counters on your stuff! Elfhame Druid comes with the ability to tap for one Green for anything and then two for kicked stuff to help with our Commander.
This other two-drop 0/2 Mana Elf taps for mana you control of lands, and if you have at least one counter make 3 mana instead. Easily done with that adapt 3 for 5 mana. The one-cost sorcery with kicker three will Tutor a basic land to your hand, and if kicked, two! Copy of that kicked will give you four. The last dork above costs four for a Hill Giant body with devoid and kicker two and a colorless in there. Then it has a cast trigger to ramp any land tapped, like basics or non. If kicked you'll exile a land. Nasty removal there.
Now let's turn to lands. The Green tapping one ETBs tapped and you can tap it for no mana to toss a +1/+1 counter on all Green stuff that entered the battlefield this turn! Pretty good with you but it helps other players too. The Simic colored one taps for colorless and then with that two to toss +1/+1 counters on all things that ETBed, not just Green, but still your foes' ones here.
Demolition Field will also destroy an opposing nonbasic land, this time when you sac it with 2 mana. Then they and you will ramp a basic untapped. Throne of Makindi taps for colorless and with one to toss a counter here and then you can tap it with nothing to make 2 mana for kicked stuff.
Now I needed some card draw in my land base! Enter this duo. The first will tap with three to draw a card and lose two life. The second one will tap with three too to draw that card if you control a dork of power four or more, quite easily done with your leader or others with +1/+1 stuff too or a few base too.
Fun Kicker Cards
The two-drop Beast with 2/2 size and then kicker three will ETB with two counters. Then it gives trample to itself and other stuff you control with that +1/+1 counter from our leader on down! The seven-drop rare Beast with kicker three too has a beefy 6/6 size, hexproof so none can target it save you, haste and then cannot be countered either, how will folks answer it? Then that kicker also increases its size too, but note, no evasion here.
Let's check out this copy duo! The rare Blue just reprinted in Foundations and Standard-legal spell with a four-cost and kicker five is first. You'll create a token of one dork, normally and kicked five instead...copied? Wowzer Bowser! Then the three-drop Elf with four kicker mana and 3/2 uncommon body is next! If you kicked it, it'll arrive with a copy of your dork this time instead of any!
Myriad Construct has kicker three and then if so will ETB with a +1/+1 counters for each nonbasic your foe's control easily 3 or 5 per player! Then when it's targeted by any spell, it gets sacked and turns into it's power of 1/1 Constructs...nasty swarm ability here! Wolfbriar Elemental has one Green mana multikicker and ETBs with that many 2/2 free Wolf tokens, again, great going wide or swarm ability there too! Love it loads here, I am sure you will too!
Synergies and Winning Conditions
Now let's turn to fun synergies and more win cons than Cragplate Baloth or Rite above! We'll start with kicker cast triggers. The one-drop kicker three enchantment in Blue is first! When it arrives, if kicked make a 2/2 flying Drake, and then as you cast kickers you'll make a free one, please cast with kicker after dropping our leader to get two of them. The uncommon in the same set with 4/4 and flying on a five-drop, on curve, will turn kickers to scry 2, strong stuff. The three-drop Simic colored 2/4 also in the same set taps for your colors and then turns casts to gaining a pair of life to keep you living longer!
Now let's turn to win cons for the first two. The six-drop kicker three 5/5 will have a 5/5 base body and then when it attacks solo? Double its size....and since that kicker will make it a 10/10? It'll attack as a base 20/20 kill Ape. The Blue spell costs two base, and then kicker four, and foes will mill half of their library if kicked, and then just eight otherwise. Love that copied! The one-drop legendary lady in Blue has flash, and defender and haste. She can tap with 2 mana to copy your copies! Get another kicked copy here!
The five-drop 3/3 Blue rare Deepglow Skate will double all counters on your stuff, from planeswalkers loyalty to +1/+1 on your stuff! The Green mount Ornery Tumblewagg says that at the beginning of your combat turn, you can put a counter on your stuff, saddle this for two, and then when it swings if saddled, double one dork's counters, like, well, maybe your Commander? A recursive doubling engine is nasty here.
The uncommon two-cost sorcery Unnatural Restoration will return a permanent to your hand, but not a spell. Then populate! The Green three-cost on curve with two kicker 3/3 is next! When Murasa Sproutling enters and kicked you can return a kicker card to your hand. The Blue two-drop common kicker with 4 Tazeem Roilmage is last. If it was kicked then you can return a spell to your hand like the Rite of Replication or mill spell above.
Answers
Now let's turn to answers like counters or removal. I have the one-cost common above that gives one of your dorks hexproof like your Commander and if kicked is a +4/+4 combat trick too. The two-cost common Blue instant will counter cheap stuff and then can be kicked for 2 mana and if so will counter medium stuff then. The X spell Simic instant is next and it'll toss +1/+1 counters on your dork and then your foe must spend mana equal to its power to prevent counterage. Love that synergetic thing here loads, I'm sure you do too!
Now let's turn to kicker dork removal. The two-drop colorless Wastescape Battlemage has a pair of kickers. The one-cost Green will exile an opposing artifact or enchantment and the 2 mana Blue one will bounce their dork. The four-drop Green 5/5 beater Territorial Allosaurus has kicker three which will fight on arrival when spent. The two-drop 2/1 flyer in Blue with kicker X Thieving Skydiver is last here, she'll steal an artifact from your foes and then if equipment equip her too.
Let's finish this section with kicker common bounces! This splashable two-cost will bounce a nonland and then can be kicked for two to draw a card too. Love this copied since you'll bounce two, draw two for 4 mana and two counters.
Card Draw
Let's start the card draw section with card draw kickers. The uncommon Eldrazi costs five for a 3/5 body with kicker one colorless. Then you can do both options, to return a dork or draw two and discard one. Or just the one otherwise. The five-drop 3/5 flyer Sphinx is next, and on arrival will draw three and discard them, great filtering or graveyard filling. But you can spend two kicker to just keep that draw of three. The mono-Green common two-drop Bear size with two Blue kicker will dig three, draw one and then the rest on your deck's bottom.
Now let's turn to kicker non-dorks. The three-cost common Field Research will draw two base like Divination and kicker three to draw another. The four-cost rare Inscription of Insight with four kicker can choose them all if kicked. One will bounce two, the next will scry 2 and draw two, and then the last one will make a dork with size equal to your hand count.
Jace, Mirror Mage is a planeswalker with kicker two. You'll want it to make a copy with 4 loyalty. You can +1 one to scry two and then +0 to draw it and then take loyalty damage equal to its cost, so you'll want one to scry and then the other to +0.
How about these synergy draws? The Blue dork will cost three for a 2/2 body. You turn kicker casts into digging five and drawing one with a kicker. Love it! The spell costs four for a two card draw two and then you'll proliferate too.
Let's finish card draw with a fun +1/+1 counter draw duo. The dork Armorcraft Judge costs four for a 3/3 Hill Giant body and then will draw equal to your dorks with +1/+1 counters on them on arrival. The spell Inspiring Call costs three at instant speed to also draw equal to your dorks with counters count, but they'll get indestructible too as an answer to interaction or removal mass or targeted. Love them here since many of our kickers give +1/+1 stuff naturally.
