The Lorcana Shimmering Skies Set Review: Amber

Reddit

A new Lorcana set is here and with it comes a slew of new cards that will impact our current metagame! My article will be focused on one of the six colors in Lorcana - Amber. This new set, Shimmering Skies, features quite a few cards that have the ability to truly impact the game! As we know from previous sets, Amber, is VERY popular making up the deck known as, "Steel Song". So, let us start with the best Amber cards from this set and see which ones could impact the metagame from the jump!

We will start with the card that has many people weary of just how they will keep up with this very aggressive duck - Daisy Duck - Donald's Date!

This card is a menace at gaining lore early. The downside to playing this card is that your opponent can technically gain a character card. However, it is only a matter of time, until someone turns this disadvantage into an advantage. In trading card games, we see things happen like that all the time. This card will be a staple in any amber deck that wants to race to finish line and get to twenty lore as soon as possible. Next, let us take a look at another card that will immediately find its way into amber decks that revolve around songs, Prince Naveen - Ukulele Player!

This card will be right at home in Steel Song decks and will only get better as future sets are released! It's a "Singer 6" which means it has the ability to sing songs with a cost of six, even though it is only a four-cost character. Next, its ability, "It's beautiful, No?" This ability is indeed beautiful. When you play Naveen, you may play a song with a 6 cost or less for free! That is an insane amount of value. This is a card that will definitely impact this and future formats! Next it is time to talk about another card with powerful implications for the future of Lorcana, Queen's Sensor Core!

I think anything that gains passive lore in this game has the potential to be really good. When I say, "passive lore", I'm referring to any lore that is gained outside of questing. Queen's Sensor Core is neat because it is an item that gains passive lore at the start of your turn if you have a Princess or Queen in play. A lot of great princesses and queens are in the Amber color, so this is a perfect fit. Its other ability is fine - it can act as a drawing a character card for two ink, however I think what really makes this card is it's first ability. Another card that gains passive lore that I find interesting is Alan-A-Dale - Rockin' Rooster!

This card is essentially, Sleepy's Flute as a character card that can quest for two lore and in inkable. Ultimately, I think the fact that this card costs four ink to play is a little steep when I can just play Sleepy's Flute. But we have seen in the past, that people will sometimes choose an inkable card over an un-inkable card, and this card fits that bill nicely. The next card that deserves mentioning is, Sven - Reindeer Steed!

This card plays a nice role in Mufasa decks and any lore aggressive deck where you want to keep your characters active so they cannot be swung into. Sven allows you to ready a chosen character when you play him. This can keep certain cards alive an extra turn which means more value. Another great asset to Sven is that he quests for two and has 3 attack and 3 will power. This keeps him just out of the range of pesky cards like Brawl. With the most impactful meta cards out of the way, let us take a look at the Shimmering Skies Amber enchanted cards!

Prince Naveen - Ukulele Player, Vanellope Von Schweetz - Sugar Rush Princess, and Revive make up our Amber enchanted cards! I think all of these cards are either great or playable so I'm super happy with these being our enchanted cards for Amber this set!

Well, that is a wrap for Amber in Shimmering Skies! This set looks to be a promising one and here at CoolStuff, the writers are breaking down every color of this set. So be sure to read them all to get a grasp on what cards look to be impactful and what cards you should be chasing after. Good luck to everyone on their pulls!
