Cabal Coffers is an absolutely iconic Magic card.

It was a major part of Constructed back in the day when it was first printed and has been an extremely popular Commander and casual card ever since. There's a certain group of Magic players who just love Mono-Black decks, and most Magic players love making tons of mana.

This deck is an aspiringspike brew, and as soon as I saw him playing it on stream I knew I had to try it.

Cabal Coffers is a bit too slow for eternal formats by itself, but once you pair it with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to make every land a swamp, things start to look quite nice. I played this pairing early on after Modern Horizons 2 released as a backup plan in a Reanimator deck, but today's deck is much more fair.

Once you've used Expedition Map or Profane Tutor to set up your mana engine, you get to start going to town with powerful plays. Karn, the Great Creator headlines here, giving you access to all sorts of silver bullets and big mana payoffs. Other big payoffs like Invoke Despair and Archon of Cruelty play too, while Golos, Tireless Pilgrim can both set you up and pay you off. Amusingly it's another land in Castle Locthwain that is a huge part of the value engine, as you can dump your Cabal Coffers mana into it to draw more cards.

Add in some of Black's best cards in the format and you've got a deck that is fun, powerful, and capable of going over the top of fair decks while also disrupting unfair decks.
